Hi all! I could use some help

I've looked aroung on the internet, even the site that is posted in the skin problem thread but I'm still unsure about my cat.

My kitty Nermal just turned 3, she has had dandruff of her lower back half off and on for a while, but i just recently noticed that now above her tail and the very start of her tail that her fur has turned dry and brittle. her skin is flaking a bit. it isn't bad. but i was wondering if i should be concerned and bring her to the vet or does this sound like a normal problem?

I would sure appeciate some help

Omega-3 fish oil works wonders on cat dandruff. Go to a health food store and buy some in gelatin capsules. Then you just poke a pin in the capsule and squirt the liquid on the cat's food. One a day should be enough. Should see results inside of two weeks. After the dandruff is cleared up, one a week should be enough, unless it comes back.

That advice is for regular cat dandruff. Since you mention it's at the base of the tail, there is a medical problem called stud tail. But that's more than just flaky skin. Keep it in mind, anyway, if the Omega doesn't clear it up.

Ooo...thanks for this posting! Our Beauty has it too...it's just flaky skin along her rump. We tried bathing her, but it doesn't work.
Someone else had mentioned also that it's because we give her all dry food to eat and so she isn't getting the nutrients from the wet stuff. So I Just started mixing the two. If this doesn't work, I'm going for the fish oil!

Ask your vet about emu oil. It is wonderful stuff, and I am pretty sure it is non toxic. It clears up human skin conditions beautifully, and I read something about vets using it for skin conditions on animals. It was just a paragraph or two, it did not specify what animals. It would be worth a look.
