As some of you may know, I just adopted a new kitten several weeks ago. All was going well with Cody and the introductions to the newcomer until this weekend. Imagine my surprise when I found a trashbag on the floor in the basement which was filled! UGH!! What would make her do this? She's had UTI's before so I am making her an appointment with the vet...but she has also been using her litterbox. I don't get it! Anyone ever have this problem???

For some reason my cats will often pee on anything plastic like trash bags. They do not have a bladder infection. And are really good about using the litter boxes. But leave a trash bag on the floor and they will pee on it.No idea why they do this but they do. Its the onlytime they have not used the litter boxes.

hmm, thanks, that's actually good to hear...as she may not have a UTI. She's getting checked out tomorrow just to be sure. But no more trashbags will be laying around, that's for sure! PU!

i've had this problem with all of mine when they were kittens or new to my house... basically, keep everything off the floor, etc. until she gets used to using the litterbox only. for Java & Pixel, i also would physically move them if i saw them squat somewhere inappropriate. (Pixel actually used to pee on my pjs, which were of course on my bed
i had a plastic cover on the bed until this behavior ceased!) i think since all of mine began life outdoors, it just takes them awhile to get used to using a box. of course, it could be UTI also - but sometimes it's just habit. Java peed all over when she was in heat, then kept going in those same spots until i found the all & treated them.

My childhood cat also had a plastic fetish. If we left anything plastic on the floor in the basement, she would pee on it.

Add me to the list of people who've had healthy cats pee on trashbags (more than once). I've heard about the fish-oil thing which explains it for me.
