Alright. At first I thought it was cute that whenever my cats want in my bedroom, which is shut off from them at night, they scratch madly at the door. It doesn't harm the door because they're wearing soft paws, but at 3 am when the cats decide they want in, its VERY annoying. I've been totally ignoring it--if I open the door to tell them No I feel like it will make them realize they can get attention by it. It can go on for 30 minutes sometimes. Even allowing them in if they begin to meow isn't an option- I simply can't have them in my bedroom at night. Am I doing the right thing ignoring them or is there another method?

Nor me. Part of the joy of having cats for me is having them sleep next to me

May I ask why you don't want them in the bedroom? Could you not let them in, but train them to sleep on the floor if you don't want them on the bed?

Partially is because once in my room, they find that I'm *gasp* asleep, or trying to sleep, and therefore unable to give them attention. Therefore they either start playing in the trashcan, tackling my head, or wrestling at the foot of the bed. All very cute at first, but I work two jobs and am a full time student- at some point, I HAVE to sleep! I've been trying to really keep them awake during the day so they're happier to sleep at night, as I have no problem with them being in bed with me-- just as long as they're sleeping!

How old are they? My two are about 4 and a half months now and have calmed down a lot since I got them! They used to wake me up at all hours, but I'd just give them a quick cuddle and put them on the floor each time. Now, they don't wake me up, and wait til I call them before both jumping on me for morning cuddles!

They're 5 and 6 months old....but I think they're more *kitten like* (well...they're still kittens...but you know what I mean) than the average 5 or 6 month old because they were rescues, and I don't think they ever got a lot of one-on-one time with people before now.

Dexter & Sadie quickly trained me to never shut them out of any room.
When I tried to...they were relentless at scratching at my bedroom door.
They won...they rule.

My stalker cat, Emmie, has put a hole in our carpet trying to get in. And boy howdy does she howl. I do let them in when they want but I have to keep the door shut otherwise the dogs would trash the house and eat the cat food.

My cat used to try to climb the bedposts of my prized four corner bed. My husband squirted him with water a few times and since then, all he had to do was show him the squirt bottle and he bolted. Perhaps this would work if they start behaving badly when you are trying to sleep.
My kitties also each have their own bed on a night stand and sleep in it, although they are welcome on the bed. I would also try giving them time to grow up a bit and also realize that it is't that exciting in the room when you are sleeping.
