I am a 1st time poster but have bene reading many of your posts over the last few weeks. Since, I have found so many of your posts/responses very helpful with the pregnancy questions and concerns of my "princess" I thought that now is as good a time as any to ask a question of my own. My 2 y/o siamese mix princess delivered her first litter 9/11/05
2 hrs after her delivery she was having some bleeding
( not pouring but dripping from her vagina) I was concerned with this and took her to the vet right away. During the trip to the vet and the 2 hour wait she stopped bleeding so we were sent home. Since then she has started to bleed again, I have been trying to keep a close eye on her but now that she is cleaning herself constantly it's hard to see the exact amount of blood...it isnt profuse though. Is it normal for there to be any bleeding after the birth and if so for how long?
BTW ...thank you for all the great questions asked in these posts .. It's been a very long week for princess, she was scheduled for a c-section tomorrow
but after 73 days of waiting and lots of trips to the vet this week she delivered 5 very healthy kittens at home without surgery. I will post some photos of the babies since I have been enjoying all the new pics posted over the last week.

This is normal for 3-7 days after giving birth. However if it is alot of blood or carries on after 7 days or has a green tinge get her back to the vet asap. Dont worry to much if shes managing to clean it all up there cant be too much so she should be fine but if in any doubt get the vet to check her out.

Sasy....welcome to TCS. I would recommend contacting your vet if you are concerned about the bleeding. They would be able to tell you whether you need to bring her back in. Also, if you need a low cost spay/neuter clinic for when the kittens are weaned from mom and it is time for her to be spayed, here is a list for California:

I just got off the phone with the vet ..she says no need to worry at this point ..if it doesnt stop she will give her a "clean out" shot just to be safe. Princess is fine right now ..no fever & the bleeding is very little...thanks for the link I have a voucher already to get her spayed I plan on taking her in when I take all the kittens to get shots/dewormed. The kittens will also be getting spay & Neuter before they are sent to their new homes.

Wow...It's great that you were able to make those arrangements. I'm glad you were able to contact you vet and ease your concerns about your cat. Let us know if you have any other questions..this is a really great community of cat lovers.
