My kitten peanut is 9 months old, at the shelter they fed him a mixture of foods nothing specific. When I brought him home last night I only had adult food. Today I called the shelter and asked what they were feeding him and they said adult but he would not eat for them for three days after they got him so be patient. He still won't eat any cat food but he ate some chicken I had for lunch that I cooked and he took a piece of my pork chop tonight so I know he is hungry but refuses to eat the moist food I have, store brand, and eukanuba any suggestons on what I should buy I don't want him to starve. He has not had any other sighns of something wrong so I am keeping him away from popeye.

i would go and buy some kitten dry food and a bag of adult dry food.

Mix them together. Or put two bowls down for him.

Not all cats like wet food.

You may also need to change brand through brand because cats are very picky.

I read on my Nutro bag that from 8 -9 months old they should start eating adult food, but some feed kitten food untill 12 months old.

I would just get this cat to eat...anything. 3 days without food (or much food) with them, and not eating well for you so it's now 4 days is getting a bit long.

Re your basic question, you can either look for a "formulated for all lifestages" food (canned or dry - this includes brands such as Felidae, PetGuard,Natural Balance Ultrapremium) or feed kitten food - I would feel comfortable switching to an adult only formula at 10 to 11 months, but honestly, at this point, you simply need to get this young cat to eat!

You will need a little trial and error to find out if this cat likes fish/beef/or chicken foods best, with or without gravy, some have a "texture" thing and prefer ground (pate) or like chunks or sliced.

Immediate things to get him eating includes baby food meat (just check label to be sure it does not list onion), adding plain chicken broth over the dry food, any fancy feast flavor (I swear they sprinkle "delicious" dust over all their 40+ flavors). Later you can worry re what brand/quality of food you want this cat to eat consistently.

My 2 cents,
