Does anyone out there use some sort-of cleaning/maid service for their home?

Please, don't get me wrong...my home is not a pig-stye but with 6 cats, a 13-yr. old son, a husband who works on motorcycles and I work full-time running my own business...well...things get a bit neglected.

Curious how much it costs and if it is well worth the money?

$35.00 sounds like a great deal but probably unheard of here in New York

I'm not really looking for someone to do laundry, clean the mirrors, vacuum sort-of thing. I can handle that on a weekly basis. I am looking for someone to do the "real" dirty stuff like clean moldings, windows, ceiling fans, inside of :censor::censor::censor::censor:/freezer...the stuff you do maybe once a month and never look forward to doing.

The things you want people to do.. regular maids probably dont do. Best bet is some highschoo/college student in your family (who you know so they wont steal) and giving them like ... 35 bucks and telling them what you want done (not that it will all get done..bu tjust make out a list of everything you want done eventually and like it should all get done each month)

Yes, we have a cleaning service come in every two weeks. We have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, livingroom, diningroom, kitchen upstairs, and family room downstairs. We live messy -- not dirty, but messy -- cat toys everywhere, computer stuff everywhere, etc. They do vacuuming, dusting including high stuff, all fixtures, kitchen and bathroom floors, change burner pan liners on the stove, clean microwave, windows on rotation -- I think that's it -- for $70 a visit. It's below market, because Ken hasn't raised our rate ever, and they've been coming here for close to 15 years. Would I pay more if he did raise it? Absolutely. It is such a luxury to just not have to think about the basic cleaning, and if we had an unusual major cleaning job, I wouldn't think twice -- I'd just call Ken and schedule it. It's some of the best money we spend.

My girlfriend's family has a cleaning lady come in twice a week, to clean the house, do the laundry, dishes, etc. Probably works a total of 10 hours a week, and I suspect she gets paid around $25-35 an hour.

Messy -- not dirty!! Exactly! I will make some calls this week to get quotes. I don't want someone here everyday or every week...maybe like once a month they can come in and do the "heavy" stuff. Will let you know what the quotes are here in NY.

Hi @, I have a girl, every Saturday for 3 hours. She is very fast, if I would do the same work, I think, it would need three weeks.

I have a cleaning service come out. They send 5 girls, and they get the work done in an hour (they charge $145 an hour). They will clean anything you want (fridge, walls, windows, etc.) They pretty much clean everything in an hour (I have a 2,775 square foot house). A couple years ago I had a lady come out and she charged me $25 an hour so it pretty much equals the same it took her 5 - 6 hours to clean everything. It sure is nice having the house done in an hour LOL. I have them come out once a month.

A friend of mine has a one year old and a 12 year old and both her and her husband work full-time. She was constantly using the work "disgusting" to describe her house. She hired someone right before her son't first birthday party to come in and clean. They did a fairly heavy cleaning that took over 5 hours for 2 people. It cost her around $200.

That's exactly what we had someone come in and clean for. I like vacuuming and stuff like that, but it's the detailing that drives me nuts. We paid around $75/wk and she did it once a week.

I ended up letting her go because I felt guilty for having someone clean my house--it's a weird experience. Plus she was around the same age as my mommy and I kept picturing my mom doing it and felt even more guilty.

But lately I've been thinking about it again. I hate cleaning so much. (Except vacuuming and dusting--those are sort of relaxing.)

Well, I'm convinced. Will be calling "Merry Maids" Monday morning for a quote on a 3-bedroom/2-bath job.

My reasoning with my husband was this...I don't go & get my nails done weekly, I do them myself...I don't go out & get my hair-color done, I do that myself...I don't even go to a car wash, yes I do that myself too. I run a business full-time which brings in a good paycheck (thank God), so I either work full time & have a messy home or we live in a clean home with no money

I did home cleaning for approx. 1o years or so and I would charge approx. $15. an hour. But with a $40. minimum.
Merry Maids.... I don't know, but I went into a home where they had just cleaned and was not impressed.
I think you should interview potential individuals who work by themselves (I would come out and give free estimates) or one other person. I cleaned by myself the majority of the time and sometimes had my adult daughter come with me if it was too big for the time I had.
If you have too many people I dont know how you know if everything has been done. They rush through too fast and I dont like that.
You should be able to pay approx. $40.-50. for what you are wanting.
