i'm so sorry to bug you with another post but i am really really confused by the behaviour these two kittens are showing.

after they got up from their nap he seemed a little more relaxed and less growly. then she seemed to sense a change in his mood and became more boisterous. for a while they were playing by themselves and then he went to the toilet for a big one. and now they are charging around the room playing with things.

they seem to be playing catch but every now and then he gets her on her back and pops her until she lies absolutely still before he stops and goes away... and then she gets up and goes after him!!!!!

i don't get it... is she trying to get him to attack her? and she keeps making these chirruping noises and then streaking past him. and then she jumps up at him and then he pops her until she lies flat on her back motionless and then they do the whole thing over again!!

It's so bizarre. It seems like fighting but there is little hissing or growling ... i just don't want them to get hurt. And now just after being popped by the male she's whacking a ping pong ball around....
i am really really perplexed. i just don't know WHAT to think.

Sounds like playing....LOL...you should see my 2 cats...they are 7 years old now and my boy will still try to play "alpha" on his sister.

They sound like they are having a great time, and sorting out a few dominance issues while they are at it. They have to decide which is Alpha Cat, and much of this kind of play is geared to that. As long as they are not hurting each each other leave them to it.

well this morning i have not heard any growling or hissing so i'm guessing the male has decided that she probably won't try and bite his butt while he is sleeping or any thing like that.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if they're just playing or if it's escalated into a real fight. It doesn't happen often, but occasionally the cats will get out of hand and start being too rough. Then we'll seperate them for 1/2 an hour for "time out". 9 times out of 10 it's Wiggies with too much energy picking on his bigger brother. I don't know why Pushy puts up with him so much! I think he loves his little brother
'cos he never hurts him even though he's much bigger.

Sophie and Brynna, our dog, chase each other around the house like maniacs. It's rather amusing, since Brynna weighs 80 lbs. She's so careful when she plays with Sophie, it's amazing. I used to worry she would hurt her, but now I think Brynna might be the one that gets the short end of the battle, as Sophie has learned to swat at her!

Sophie will also play tag with me. Or hide and seek. Joe finds this hilarious, as I run through the house hiding and waiting for her to find me. Can never say having cats around doesn't keep us young!

I have started to wonder about my 2 males, both are neutered, Spook was here first and is a little older, Love has been here a few months, he is a bit younger but a lot bigger than Spook, Everytime I turn around Spook has Love by the neck from behind and is just hunched over him. Love just lets him, he stares at me like "I'm really get tired of this" so I make spook get off of him! I realize the power trip, and who is top cat, at first I thought "ok, Spook might be sexually confused" lol he's not but sometimes he does hurt Love, anyway, what is pretty strange also is right now my mama cat is in heat (and getting spay this week) and I let both the males inside awhile ago and they both ignored her, they walked up to her, smelled noses and kept on walking by! Spook went back to Love to grab him by the neck again! I feel sorry for Love, he is just putting up with Spook because he is just glad to have a home and be fed! All of the cats I have now lived once at the local carwash! Does it sound strange to anyone else?probably not, just seeing who is boss, huh?

Especially since they're both kittens, they're testing each other's buttons. If the other doesn't like what the first is doing, they'll usually hiss at them and walk off.

But if they're not hissing at each other, they're just playing. She's probably playing "possum" to him so he he'll get bored and walk away. Then she'll take the advantage to go after him. sounds hilarious.

my two teenagers (cat years!) are always after each other. very rarely, one will hiss &/or lay back ears. that's usually when i intervene (assuming i'm around) & tell the other to back off. but they are almost always playing - ears & whiskers forward!
