How long does the heat phase last? I have a Mama Cat whom had a litter of kittens back in May, I gave 2 away, and we kept the runt, Scream. Anyway, Scream had a hard time eating, and after the other 2 left, Mama started giving the attention Scream needed from the beginning. Mind you this Mama is from a feral situation, and was wild, after months of feeding and letting her get used to us, we trapped her to be spayed only to find out she was pregant, we took her home, etc. Long story, I have been patiently waiting for Scream to catch up nutritionally, my vet says he doesn't want to spayed until her milk has dried up. I tried separating them, and in a small house it was impossible. Mama, went into heat pretty quick after she had the kittens, I can't remember how long it lasted! Well a month or so later, now, she is in heat again! She is driving us crazy, I just wanted to know about how long does it last? And what do I do about having her spayed? I caught Scream trying to get milk from her today! They are tearing up my home scratching on my furniture, and since she had the kittens, she has reverted back to that skiddish wild way, she bolts if we make a sudden move, etc. and Scream is the same from watching her. They both need to be fixed so that I can let them go out some like my other cats, out during the day and in at night!
Sorry this is so long, any advise is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks,
cwc!!

How long they stay in heat varies from a few days to about 10. Some vets will spay while they are in heat, although they may charge you more for it. It does sound like you need to do this asap though. Best off talking to your vet and seeing if they will spay while she is in heat, and how much more it will cost.

thanks for the feedback, I do know that they will spay while in heat, my problem seems to be she might still have milk and my vet said something about the tissues and still too senititive to make the cut and with milk, I see his point, I have looked at her and it looks to me that she is pretty dried up, if she is dried up could you still see her nipples pertruding, don't they receed? Heck I don't have a clue? Thanks!

Hi carwash, how old is the kitten? Is the kitten on solid food now and if so, for how long?

Mama's nipples will not recede....they will always be there. Even male cats have nipples sticking out.
