For me, most of my life I've had dogs. Not until we got Trixie 4 years ago have I discovered how wonderful these furballs can be! I've always liked them, but now I realize how truly wonderful they are! Have you always been a cat person or like me, just recently discovered how wonderful they are?

growing up, we only had dogs. i got a cat when i moved to Dallas, when i was about 20. i wanted a pet, & a cat was more practical for an apartment. needless to say, i fell in love
with the species, & have had at least one ever since whenever feasible. my first furchild went to the bridge when i was in my early 30s, back living with my parents, since i had returned to school. since my mom didn't really want cats in the house, i did not get another until i started teaching in the community where i am now - that was about 4-5 years! i was suffering from severe feline deprivation. i got Pixel & Mouse in 1997, Cable in 2004 & Java in 2005. i plan to never be without at least 1 cat ever again if i can help it!

My family thinks the same thing since I adopted Bailey 2 wees ago! let them think what they want! If I had a larger house and more $$, I'd have 4 more!

I was a dog lover growning up. We always had dogs. Dad was severely allergic and swore that he "didn't like cats." Mom was rather indifferent to them, but didn't want to own one. Well, I found out that the reason they didn't want cats, and Dad said he didn't like them, is because they each had a special kitty when they were children on a farm...and it hurt each of them so much when that kitty passed over the Bridge that they swore never to have another.

But I was introduced to the true joy of kitties almost 6 years ago, when Ophelia and Trent came into our lives. (If anyone doesn't know how fate put Ophelia into our lives, you can read her rescue story here: http://savesamoa.org/html/ophelia.html )

From what I remember about picutres I have seen as me as a small child - always had many multiples. Hmm... come to think of it, that may help explain why I keep wanting more.

My parents always had cats and dogs even before I was born. We had one cat who lived to be 23, she died when I was 17. Being in the country, we would often find cats that had been dropped off to fend for themselves. We would TNR the feral ones. As soon as I moved out of the dorms, I wanted a kitty of my own. I have a kitty at home, but it would completely disrupt my mom's household as everyone (mom, dogs, and other cat) loves her.

I didn't become a cat person until I moved into my last house about 3 years ago. My roommate Jill has this awesome cat Happy and bc of him I realized how sweet and lovable cats are. I had a bad experience with an Aunt's cat biting, scratching, & hissing at me when I was little, so that kinda prejudiced me against them for a long time. Happ is an awesome friendly cat though, so he helped me get over my aversion to them and made me love cats! I got Pixie about 4 or 5 months after I moved in.

I've always been a cat person, my only pet growing up, except for a few fish that didn't live very long, was my RB cat Katy, who lived to be 18--I was 23 when she died so she was more like a sister than a pet!
As soon as I lived on my own in an apartment that allowed pets, I got Oliver. I do like dogs as well, but have just never had the space or time to have one. We have a house now with enough room, but we just don't have the time to walk a dog, we both work too much.
My husband never had any pets growing up, his sister is allergic to basically everything, and he had never spent that much time around cats, so he wasn't really thrilled per se, when we got Oliver, but it only took about a day to make him a cat person! Kittens tend to have that affect on people
