A possum...thing just ran out in the middle of the road and stared at me...it happened so quick...I couldn't swerve because of a car was coming the other way and there was a guard rail on the other side. Needless to say, I came home crying.

I am unsure, I once hit a cat at night on a country road, stopped and looked everywhere for it, was going to take him home and bury it, or take it to the vet, never found it.

A little froggy a LONG time ago... I swerved and almost hit the guard rail. The little froggy must have been happy.. the people in the car- well, that's another story.

Edited:
Oh woops- this was about killing. Well, I guess that's the closest I've come! =)

There are all these yellow butterflies out now (that means it's almost FALL! ) and I would estimate about 10-15 of them met their fate on my windshield this past weekend as I drove on the interstate

Probably only things like bugs, although most of the time they are killed on purpose
post #10 of 25
unfortunately yes.. Two cats (at probably 7 years apart), several wilder animals (squirrels, raccoons, possums, etc), and numerous things like bugs.
I ran over a squirrel by accident once. I don't really like squirrels, but I felt really bad about running the poor little guy over

I ran over a baby frog once when I was mowing my parents' lawn. RIP froggy.

Do flies count?!

I killed a chicken once by slamming the pen door behind me. Poor chook got its head caught.
I think I ran over a hedgehog once, couldn't tell for sure. My friend insisted I'd missed it, but think she was just trying to make me feel better.
I don't even kill bugs on purpose. But I do now let the cats kill them for me!
No, thank goodness. I once hit a dog, and another time I hit a cat, but both lived.

Actually, come to think of it, I might have killed a chipmunk once, but I'm not sure.

Yeah. A bunny, he was sitting in the middle of a dark road. I was cruising along with my windows down, sunroof back. Before the headlights really showed what was in the road, well I was going too quick to stop... and all I heard was SPLAT outside my window. I was so horrified I pulled over immediately and man was I a crying MESS!!!

When I was about 19 I drove a little delivery van & ran over a squirrel! I felt so bad, I finished my delivery, came back for his little body & buried it at work. The owners probably thought I was nuts, but oh well.

I've run over a groundhog I was the first car stopped at a light one morning going to work (during rush hour), and when the light turned green the groundhog and his buddy chose to dash across the road. If I had stopped I would have been rear ended at the least or caused a really bad accident at the worst. When I got to work I was such a mess my boss sent me to sit in back for a while until I calmed down.

In all my years with myriad cats, I have twice stepped on kittens who ran under my feet.

My first roadkill was a squirrel who actually ran into my tires!
Probably bugs, though most are intentional. One time I thought I ran over a little squirelly but when we had turned around and were coming back he finally got up and ran out of the road!!!

That happened to me when the monarchs migrated through my area this past year, except I hit hundreds of them. It was totally unavoidable, but I still felt horrible. It happened for 2 days and I was so glad when the migration ended. It was beautiful to watch them but driving was awful.

Never! I'm more likely to kill myself! Living in the country for most of my life and now in an area with crazy cats and squirrels and dogs running free, I ALWAYS have my wits about me!

A possum in the middle of the country road at night.
