Ok so yesterday, I had horrible problems with Harley. First, he discovered that he can go behind our entertainment center and hide from me. I really didnt like that b/c he tries to climb up on the cords that are back there from the DVD player & TV, so he almost pulled down the DVD player once with the cord from trying to climb up onto the back of the TV. I tried scolding him and telling him NO firmly but that didn't work! Then, he realized that he could get up onto our window sills by climbing up some shelves and then playing with the window shades, which rattle when he plays with them, and at this point it was 12:00 at night and I was furious! I tried to put him in the living room so I could sleep only to have him cry and cry until I let him back in! I don't know how to stop him from terrorizing everything in site!
He has been so good up until yesterday and today even! I know that kittens get into everything but is it usually this bad?

The only thing I could suggest is to spend some time playing with him before bedtime so that he's tired. It has worked for us with Bijou and Mika.

He sure is a cutie - how could you ever stay annoyed with him!

We usually play with him for a good hour before bed and I even did that last night and it just didnt work!

It is really hard to stay irritated at him, he looks at me with those cute little eyes and I melt!

I feel your pain. Sophie does the same things to me. Even playing with her doesn't totally wear her out. As she's getting older, I notice that some of the more irritating behavior has stopped (the wires, the window shades, etc.), for the most part. Oh, she'll still go at it once in awhile, though! You're right, it's almost impossible to stay annoyed with them...but lack of sleep vs. that furry little face can lead to some interesting conversations with her (usually at 4 a.m.)!!!

sounds normal to me - sorry! it will get better as he gets older, tho. you might try getting a squirting water bottle to squirt him with when he starts to go somewhere you don't want him... also, there are some sprays, like bitter apple, to make places less attractive.

I just absolutely
this site, everyone is sooo helpful!!
I just hope that today is a better day, it gets so irritating that he gets into
EVERYTHING!! I just dont want him to hurt himself. I think I'm going to get him a little thing to sit on next to our window so he can look outside, maybe that way he wont be getting up into my shades, I'll just keep them open! But at night...he just thinks he rules the house cuz no one is up! He's still my love bug

A seat by the window does wonders! Josie has certain windows she likes to look out. I pull the shades up out of her reach and put a folding chair by a window in the sun porch, because she likes to look for birds in the evergreen tree out in the yard. I also pull shades up out of her way for the windows behind the couch. She loves to perch there and look outside. That's usually where she is when I come home from work. She knows about what time I come home and I walk up the sidewalk on that side of the house. So, she's always watching for me.

My boys are 14 months old and they still do crazy things like that.
Heck, my 1 year old girl got even with my kitty pill popper a few nights ago.
She'd been getting antibiotics after a couple skin biopsies.
She was done with the course, but apparently still unhappy about it.
She climbed up into our DVD shelves and got the pill popper and chewed it to bits.

I am just learning to cope again with two kittens in the house and it suddenly hit me today - OMG, I forgot how kittens are! In the plants, behind hte TV, under the wardrobe, climbing the curtains, everywhere. It is pretty normal, we just forget in between.

I used to do that...then I started hearing this weird thumping noise. I thought nothing of it, but noticed that my kitty was sleeping for longer time periods than usual. Eventually, my bf spotted her just as another weird thump was heard and immediately started laughing. Turns out my daffy cat was stalking things outside, running headfirst into the window, shaking her head for a bit, crouching down, resuming stalking, and running into the glass all over again (she would stop after a bit to sleep off the head trauma for a few hours)! Needless to say, BirdTV was put on a permanent hiatus in our household.

Im glad everyone else's kittens are just as crazy as Harley! He has now learned that when we come in the door from work or from being gone, he jets out the apartment door into the hallway, I don't know how to make him stop doing that! I feel like I have a child!!

Yeah, know how you feel! We're kept awake all night, have to "child proof" our apartment, and wipe dirty bums all the time! Just seems these kids never grow out of it.

I think the idea about a window seat is great. We got one, and the boys absolutely love it - the best seat in the house! We keep that shade up all night so they can watch the world outside. Only problem is the neighbour cat who occasionally comes by at 3 in the morning and launches himself screaming at the window.

Aww..thank you!
I think I'm gonna look into getting him a window seat! I can never stay mad at him! I guess this is good preperation for a child, but lord knows that a child will be 10 x's more hassle!
I'm gonna stick to my Harley for awhile!!

Yes...I remember those days...I thought I had my first born with the lack of sleep I was getting. Kitten running around, making noises, being woken up in the middle of the night b/c my hands and feet were getting pounced on; nose being attacked too...

The nights will get better as Harley realises it isn't much fun playing without mom around!

LOL...I
the BirdTV story!

Our newest addition to the family is a stinker. She loves to get into everything she can. She likes to attack what she thinks is mice under my blanket so on those nights I go cold. Sometimes she makes all kinds of noise in my bedroom and she has "trained" me to give up my room to her...I sleep on the couch, her, on my bed. Tonite she is already at it. She thinks my CPAP machine hose is a giant snake and she is out to kill it. HaHa, wait till I plug it in and it starts hissing (from all the holes she is putting in it). That should keep her busy for awhile as I already know its a couch nite again.
