Have any of you heard of the idea of giving your cats grass to chew on to help with their digestion?

I've heard of some sort of myth along these lines, but have never actually done it myself. What are your guys' thoughts?

It is true cats eat grass to obtain clorophyll and settle tummy issues...

If you look in the Market Place forum you will see an ad for cat grass

Cats eat grass to help them get rid of hairballs - the grass fibre helps them to vomit (gross but true). For indoor cats it is a good idea to grow some wheat grass or similar in a little pot for them to nibble on. Although mine are indoor/outdoor I still grow a trough of grass on the balcony that they eat from time to time. And then I find a little pool of grass, hair and disgusting things! All part of the wonderful world of cat-owning.

I got a tub of cat grass for my two a while back, and they chewed away on it for a bit (and it didn't make them sick). In the end they just stalked each other through it and tried to hide in it!

I'll definately get them some more soon.

Where do you get your seeds? I've been considering starting to grow some for chester, but can't find anywhere that sells seeds for growing (except those rediculously expensive containers at the petstore).

I tried giving it to my guys, but they didn't want any part of it. Now, if they are outside they'll munch to their hearts content... I don't get it!

I'm thinking about getting some seeds. I got some grown grass from a pet store and Cupid wouldn't have anything to do with it, but it could be because it had strange scents on it of pets in the store, and people touching it. I don't know if he'll eat it or not, but I'm dying for something GREEN in the house that if he ate, wouldn't be a bad thing!

I get my seeds from this website http://www.poopsiecat.com/grass.html

They will send you a free packet so you can see if your kitty likes it. I bought 2 small clay pots and a big bag of topsoil at Wal-Mart. It only takes a couple minutes to plant and lasts about a week. (It will grow longer, but the kitties only want it when it's fresh, green and tender. Just like we don't want to eat veggies that are old and brown.) Put one down on the floor for them and plant a new pot right away. By the time the new pot grows, the old pot will be ready to throw away and re-plant. I think it's too expensive and inconvenient to buy the pre-grown containers at PetSmart, since it only lasts a week or so.

I always have some for Prego and Polly. They both love it. The first time Prego ate it, he ate way too much and threw up. Now he seldom throws it up.

You should let Chester try it, but you may want to watch him for the first few days and make sure he doesn't become a glutton and throw it up like Prego did.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the links guys, unfortunately both places only ship in the US. Sometimes it sucks being from Canada. I'll just have to keep my eye open. I wish there was a good petstore online for Canadians. Maybe I should start one myself eh?
Until then, I found a "Cosmic Kitty" bag of seeds at petsmart yesterday. I sure wish you could buy it by the bag at garden stores. That'd be sweet!
