Yeah, we're right in the path too. Luckily about 60 miles inland from the coast, but still worrisome that it's moving this way.

We just got back from vacation in Myrtle Beach last night around midnight.
12 + hours drive home......uuggggh.

The waves were great this past week!
Made for a great time in the water.

We all had a great time!
A few sunburns along the way, and a wipeout or two in the waves.
But hated to come home.
Now, I am happy to be here, hearing about Ophelia threatening.

This stupid thing has made a loop, and now it's sitting in the SAME spot it was 48 hours ago! That's what they get for naming a storm "Ophelia" ...

"There's rosemary, that's for remembrance; pray,
love, remember: and there is pansies. that's for thoughts.
There's fennel for you, and columbines: there's rue
for you; and here's some for me: we may call it
herb-grace o' Sundays: O you must wear your rue with
a difference. There's a daisy: I would give you
some violets, but they withered all when my father
died: they say he made a good end,-- "

If it doesn't get any stronger, I think we will be ok. This house is has weathered many of them and has held up well. We had a 1 and a 2 last year and did not even lose power or water. But you know what? I AM STILL SCARED SPITLESS OF HURRICANES AND THE LIQUOR STORE WAS CLOSED BY THE TIME I GOT OFF WORK TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!

It is blowing like a bandit here already, and something hit my roof a little while ago. This is not going to be a good weekend.
Yeah, I was just thinking that after Katrina, folks would be saying "it's only a category 1 or 2".

The darn thing has moved again! I almost wish it would do what is going to do and get it over with! I have a couple week's worth of food, water, cat food, candles, TP, and batteries. I spent money that I really did not have on it, so we will probably not get anything at all. The more prepared I am, the less likely we are to need it.

I just read that Ophelia has been downgraded to a tropical storm. I haven't checked the weather reports, it was just a little blurb that popped up on my Netscape home page. I sure hope that's true!

Yes, it has been downgraded. The thing is moving so slowly that the winds have produced upwelling in the ocean below it. In other words, mixing cooler deep water in which reduces the "fuel" off which it feeds.

However
, some of the models suggest that it will move over a current of the Gulf Stream (warmer water) and will regain strength to hurricane status before landfall. At this point I believe it's actually better if the dang thing stays put.
