It's frustrating, I'm sure for everyone down there.

Miss Ophelia is between two ridges, as she's "stuck" between deep currents (vertical air currents) within the Gulf Stream's outer rim. So, IOW, it's kinda holding her in place, I hope this makes sense. Her movement is stationary. No movement. Also, her barometric pressure is rising, indicating the eyewall is becoming less organized. If she does have the ability to get herself out of this rut, I'll bet she'll turn to the NE for the time being. Let's hope she just falls apart.

dont you all get sick of living in a place with constant hurricanes and always having to worry?

Yup! The wierd thing is until last year they weren't that many of them. All of a sudden Florida gets 4 last year and this year... who knows? I postponed my plans to visit my Mom and other family until spring just because of "hurricane season."

My roof just got repaired from last year a week and a half ago!

Like I told Tanya before they had even named this one Ophelia...

Hopefully that storm will take after my Ophelia - pretty quiet and likes to nap a lot! She really isn't much interested in playing, and when she does it's pretty short and sweet. Not too rambunctious!

I hope it will Heidi. I'm kinda scared about this one. Our base even did a test of their hurrican evacuation system about an hour ago....it was really eerie to hear the sirens blaring over the speaker system
. I have a not-so-good feeling about this one.

I hope it falls apart but we never really know what hurricanes will do. My advice, having gone through Andrew and a just miss with Katrina (I'm on the west side of NO), is to get some bottled water and stick it in your freezer. That way if it's only a CAT 1 or 2 and you do decide to stay, you'll have ice and cold water to drink as it defrost.

I do this at the beginning of each hurricane season and just leave it in the freezer until the season is over. You know you can't get water in the stores when a hurricane is about 3 days away!

Let's just keep our fingers crossed for it to go away!

We got hit with 2 in one month last year, & we were soooo lucky. It's kind of exciting on one hand(I'm a storm junkie) but on the other hand, it's scary. I had a real bad feeling about Katrina. Ophelia can't seem to make up her mind, but is expected to make landfall North of us, which they say will give us a dry weekend.
Another idea for water storage is to start putting aside those empty 2 litre bottles of soda..rinse them out good & use them for water. We had so much water last year, it wasn't a problem. A co-worker filled her washing machine & used it for bathing.

I am not too far out of the white circle on the map, inside it on the 3 day forecast. I have carriers ready and gas in the car if we have to leave, and only need a few more things if we don't. The grocery store is around the corner, so either way, I AM SCARED SPITLESS OF HURRICANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will be going to the liquor store on the way home from work tomorrow.

don't know if this is relevant but if you'll remember ophelia from hamlet, she was a bit odd, and this hurricane is being odd
