Just curious to know if any of you have had any luck with Weight Watchers? I just joined today, as the combination of meds and being on disability from work have enabled a few pounds to creep on over the past 6 months.

The Flex Points plan seems good and realistic. Of course, I don't expect to lose 20 pounds overnight, but it's my immediate goal.
If any of you have any experience with WW, I would love to hear it. If you don't feel comfortable replying on the thread, a PM would be very welcome.

I don't have much of a personal support network, so it would be great to gain some positive support here. Thanks very much!

I hear the new workable solution is this Curves place.
It sounds kind of like a fun workout motivational cult.
But I hear it works for many.

I know 3 people who did lose weight on weight watchers but they had to go back a few times (after quitting the first time). It kind of reminds me of AA in that way

Good luck! Remember, Lotsa water and exercise that you actually like!

Thanks for the encouragement! Yes, they pretty much drilled it in that lots of water and exercise are key.

Curves isn't my thing, but I can appreciate the concept. I prefer just getting out in the fresh air (well, not so fresh here in Toronto!), and with fall on its way, I'm definitely anticipating the crisp, cool days to encourage me to get out of my apartment more.

I lost 30 lbs on the Atkins plan and have kept it off.
WW is the best plan out there though. It just doesn't fit with my lifestyle. Good luck
We're rooting for you!

I've gotten the impression that most people who try WW and stick to it really do well. I just started it myself a few days ago to try to lose about 15 lbs. My parents are both doing it and have lost 25-30 lbs each in 2 mos or a little more I think. They encouraged me not to let myself have extra food points for exercise (but rather do the exercise and still stick to your regular point allowance) and also to use as few of your weekly flex points as possible. (Of course this makes sense!) I know a lot of people really find the meetings helpful to maintain their motivation. Weightwatchers.com also has some nice message boards to get support and recipe ideas. The great thing is you truly can eat anything you want, as long as you track it and eat an appropriate amount. Of course, that appropriate amount can seem awfully tiny at times. :-)

Also, once you lose the weight stick with the plan, at least loosely, to avoid gaining it all back. Keep us updated and good luck!

I've been following the plan since May 30th. I've lost 26 lbs so far. I have another 29 to go. Good luck. Its good to have someone to do it with you. A friend of mine from work started the same day and she is doing great too.

WW definitely worked for me. The only problem I ran into was that I was only doing the online version (I was in Europe) and wasn't able to have all the materials. I found myself tied to the computer, constantly entering the information and figuring out points. It really got to be quite obsessive. Every time I ate something, I'd run upstairs to get online. I wasn't really very good about planning my meals ahead of time. I want to sign back up again now that I'm back in the states.

I did join Curves too, but I don't like it. I'm not very diligent about going and when I do, most of the women treat it as gossip time and don't really focus. And you're in such a small group setting it's impossible to ignore the conversation without looking like a jerk.

Good luck to you! Stay on program and you'll lose weight.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I'm feeling quite positive about this -- I feel I'm making the right decision by going with WW. Even if I can learn to gain control of portion control, that will help a lot.
