Wow I never realized how little I knew about baby kittens (and how much I pay attention to what comes out of a little critter lol).

Lexus seems to have really stinky poo - I'm wondering if this is common in kittens or is due to her lower quality diet (the shelter feeds Purina Kitten Chow).

I know some of the problem is due to her not covering it up, but it seems like something is off when it smells up the entire room she's in. Most seem to be appropriately colored and of solid consistancy, although she did have a little soft stool this am. I'm currently using Feline Pine btw.

I'm thinking of gradually switching her to Wellness kitten formula or maybe Prarie if my feed store can order it for me. What you you think? Might it help? Any ideas on other odor reducing methods?

Thanks!

This may be totally unhelpful, but my experience? Kittens stink. Man do they stink.

I'm also willing to bet that the low quality diet and not-covering poop contribute to it. Switching to a higher quality diet will benefit the kitten no matter what the poop smells like. Some people here don't like Wellness because of the garlic however (they will probably recommend Nutro or Innova, etc).

Ok glad to know Lexus is not alone in her 'stinky cat' reputation lol.

Interesting about Wellness...I know several dog people who don't like the number of grains in the formulas.

Is it ok to feed a kitten an adult formula? My feed store has some great brands but never seem to have kitten formulas and I wondered if the manufacturers just design the foods for all life stages. Does Innova have a kitten formula?

Also any thoughts on Felidae? The packaging says it is formulated for all ages.

I don't think Innova has a kitten formula that I've seen, and I believe it is important that it be for kittens. Kittens need more protein (?) I think than adult cats do. Someone who knows more may pop in though.

Felidae is a good food, but I've had kittens that would rather starve than eat it (and I'm not the only one).

I think the Nutro Max is pretty good for kittens.
