We are going away for 5 days in October. I am planning to leave Dori at home but my Mom will be coming by to feed Dori her wet food each morning (I free feed dry), to scoop the litter box, and to play with her for a little while. I plan to make sure she has the numbers for Dori's vet, she will know where the carrier is as well. I am going to make sure to leave a few t shirts around with my smell on them. I will keep a radio on in one of the rooms playing softly. Is there anything I am leaving out?

I have alone left Dori alone once for 2 days and I am very worried about it. I am going to miss my girl but I am also worried since I know sometimes cats don't react well to their owners leaving. I am worried she won't eat or this could stress her so she doesn't use the restroom well. Is there anything I can do to avoid that? I am going to leave careful instructions with my mom to keep an eye on the litter box activity and just in case she does quit eating I am leaving a few cans of her old favorite Friskies Shredded Turkey & Cheese. That is just in case she doesn't eat her regular food because I know without fail she will gobble that stuff up

Anyway, I would really appreciate any suggestions or advice if anyone can think of anything else I should be doing.

Thanks!

Everything sounds good to me... I went away for over two weeks in August and my boyfriend would stop in to check on and care for the monster... he's used to me going away though (We go visit my boyfriend's parents or occasionally mine over weekends) - he's always super clingy when we get back, but he doesn't alter his behavior at all... I always leave animal planet on for him. If possible, give your mom a number to reach you (if she doesnt already have it) in case your kitty's doing something that normal for him but could be seen as an odd behavior (you know, so she doesnt go rushing to the vet if he's like drinking out of the toilet but he does that on a regular basis)... other than that, it sounds like you've covered all your bases.

Sounds like you have all the bases covered. I've been away for as long as two weeks with someone coming by each day to clean the litter boxes, play with the kitties and check on food and water. Yours should be fine and you can look foward to getting a lot of attention when you get home.

sounds good - you covered everything - including leaving smelly Tshirts around!

I hope your mum knows him well already.
if not, make sure they have prolonged introductions in your presence.
We dont want him to think a "stranger" has arrived; it stresses some cats out (on top of the owner gone, which is stressful)

Ok, it's a little over a week away now. I just got the ok from my boss to take the week off for sure. We are definately going, and while I am excited it also made me more nervous about Dori. I thought of one other thing, I am going to pick up a Feliway refill for our diffuser and keep that plugged in....
I just can't get rid of the thought that poor Dori isn't going to understand I will be back in 5 days and might think I am never coming back
