OK, our adopted stray had 4 kittens last night. Seemed to go fairly easily. However, she has 3 still inside. We took her to the vet this afternoon, because we thought we could feel more kittens. They gave her 2 doses of kitty Pitocin, the last one being about 6 pm. She has been having intermittent contractions all night. She delivered one stillborn kitten about 45 minutes ago. She is exhausted. Any idea how long it may take to deliver the next two? Any suggestions on how to help her?

If she doesn't deliver all of them tonight, the vet's instructions are to bring her back in tomorrow and they will surgically remove them at a cost of about $600! (part of the cost is for spaying). I'm worried that she doesn't have the energy to keep going like this till tomorrow.

Cats can go up to about 32 hours (im not sure on the exact time) between having some kittens and delivering more.
Is she acting normal in between time? If she is acting normal, not straining or lethargic I personally would not worry and i'd wait a little longer to see if she goes back into active labor. But if you sense something is not right the best thing to do is have the vet step in.

Welcome to TCS...this is a thread I normally recommend to people regarding the timeframe for labor:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46743

Since she was induced for the final 3, I'm not sure if there is a shorter timeframe. Whenever I have a medical question, there is an emergency vet closeby that I can call...perhaps if you have one in your area, they can give you ideas. I would also continue to check back because someone on this board may be able to provide advice.

She finally ended up with 5 live kittens and 1 stillborn. It took the better part of 3 days though. The kitty Pitocin worked pretty well. The vet thought there was a 7th kitten, so we took her back to have surgery. Once they got in there, there wasn't another kitten though. Don't know what happened to it. They went ahead and spayed her. Of coure, after that, the vet tells us that we may have to dropper-feed the kittens since the mama would probably be uncomfortable nursing. So far, so good though. She doesn't seem to be having any problems nursing, but she hasn't had much to eat or drink. Is loss of appetite normal?

If I can figure out how to post pics, I will. They are all black, 2 are solid black and 3 have white on their paws and faces. Really cute :-)

I'm glad she is ok as well as her 5 kittens. She was only spayed recently right?? She may still be recovering from that and may not have much of an appetite. What are you feeding her?? I fed my foster mom dry and wet kitten food and I gave her some KMR as well as water.

As smokey wasnt coping very well after giving birth the vet suggested i put her on a diet of convalescence(sp?) food. She is back to normal now and mum and babies are doing fine. Maybe you could pick some up for her from the vet it cant hurt.
