hi,

my 2 year old persian cat wont eat! He ate some strawberry cream cheese that was on the table 2 days ago and threw it up on the floor. i knew he ate it because the throw up was pink! After that he is not eating and drinking very little. He is also not moving around just laying in one place (he is usually active) and he is not going to the bathroom only urination. we took him to the vet today and they said they would have to do bloodwork and xrays it would cost $1500 which I cant afford. they dont know what is wrong but said there is something in his intestines (probably feces that hasnt come out in 2 days). I dont know what to do, please help me i am very worried.

thank you

Please get a quote from a second vet and see if one or the other will let you set up a payment plan. Check out all the excellent links TNR gave you...but do not try to self treat this at home. If your cat has a blockage or is severly constipated, it needs help and needs it fast.

We can make suggestions for how to deal with constipation once your kitty is cleaned out - IF - that is even the problem, but right now, you need an accurate diagnosis. The x-rays are key, and the bloodwork is key...please get on the phone tomorrow and find out what options there are for payment or financial assistence, and get your cat back in to the vets *tomorrow*.

Time is of the essence. I wish your kitty all the best,

$1500? Chester was hospitalized for several days plus follow up visits, tests etc etc etc and the final cost was less than half that.

Prices can vary widely, depending on what state and city and vet you are in, but that does sounds too pricey for just x-rays and bloodwork. My cat had x-rays and it cost me a lot less than that.

Oh if we are going to talk prices...x-rays run me $80 each, blood work, even the most expensive panel is under $200. I've spent $1,500 but that was with full hospitalization for 4 days, iv's, and one dang, dang ill kitty.

Go find a second vet.

I just spent $60.00 on x-rays for Barley (they took two views) Bloodwork varies depending on if they do the work there or send it out. But I would definitely get your cat to another vet and get this checked out.

One time my cat jumped and fell off of what she was jumping on and she hurt her hip. She had x-rays and an exam, and something for the pain and It cost me only about $120.
