I know many of you already play with your kitties with laser pointers, but I just tried one with mine for the first time last week. Pete went crazy (like he does with every new toy) but what really surprised was how much Katie LOVES it. She chases and pounces on the light like a kitten. It's been a while since I've seen her play like this. Gracie doesn't pay any attention to it at all, so guess it depends on the cat. But for those of who have haven't tried a laser pointer with yours, I'd highly recommend it.

I think I'll take your advice and pick one up this week. I love watching Sophie get all silly when she's playing!

I'll second that! My two LOVE the laser, and would run around chasing it til they collapsed if I let them! Great exercise, and I can play with them whilst sitting on the sofa drinking chardonnay!

I think most kitties love to chase the lazer lights. Be very careful though that you do not shine it in their eyes!

Jeremiah loved his from the get-go! The first time he played with it, he chased it around until his tongue was literally hanging out!

Yah we use the laser pointer with Zorro. We call it the "Red bug" and he goes insane over this thing!

The other cats have mild interest... but Zorro hunts it down & kills it.

Hubby tried to take a video on his phone of Max enjoying the laser light - I would move it back and forth qucikly (about 8 inches) and his head kept trying to follow it. Poor thing, looked like he was going crazy - but he enjoyed every minute of it!

I have the same problem here

All of mine love it, but Vash will actually run/jump 8 feet up the door after it.

Luna and Beauty both love the laser light! And Patches like the fact that they're distracted with it...the distraction gives her the chance to pounce on them when neither are looking

We've been thinking about getting this for ours for a while now. Our Hobbes (who isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer) will sit for, literally, hours and stare at the wall because the light changed from a car driving by. It's adorable. A laser pointer just seems like the PERFECT toy for the goofball!!

Ditto what Yosemite said....be careful you don't shine those things directly in their eyes...it can cause retinal damage.

The first several times that I played with Sidney using a laserlight, she just went crazy - pouncing, wiggling her butt, chattering. chirpping. It was hilarious. But, being the paranoid mommy that I am, I started worrying that this playing (i.e. chasing after a "prey" and never being able to catch it) might do something horrible to her psyche. I thought: It can't possibly be good for a predatory animal like a cat to continually go after something but never being able to "catch" it. So I prohibited my brothers from overdoing it with the laser. Am I crazy/overprotective or what?

Actually that is a big concern with laser pointers. I guess it really depends on the cats personality.

My cats LOVE it. We don't play that often here with it for the reasons you pointed out. Every now and then, it's a nice treat for them though. I just don't want them too hung up on it.

My ex usually uses his cell phone to shine a light on the wall to play with Riley when he picks the kids up. Riley sits and look at him and the wall every time he walks in the front door. It's kinda cute

Bobbie, thank you for validating my concerns! I am happy to know that, at least on this issue, I am not being irrational! lol I am sure on other things...
