As you may have read...Mabby is being a bit difficult since the arrival of the young poppy....This means that at times. she has taken her "disaproval" out on me............

Emmet was a very bratty 1 year old, so cat scratches dont worry me anymore...But I have a question....why is it sometimes when kits scratch...its just a scratch.....and at other times they seem to "bubble" up...........?

I used to be severly allergic to cats as a kid, but after owning cats for the past 3 years those allergies have seemed to dissipate...Though I am wondering if the "bubbling" is an allergic reaction........

I find that the bubble effect happens more often with Mabby's scratches....though she does scratch more often....I am just curious.......

Ihope i put this post in the right place...I was going to put it in the Health forum.....but its my health...not my kits.....of well if it needs to be moved...i will apologize before hand

So far out in left field I got lost
Hey Bridget I have no idea why some of the scratches bubble up and others don't. Hopefully someone on here will be able to help you with this.

Not too long ago Oscar was in the bed with us and something scared him. He tore Ken and I up getting out of the bed. I had a 6 inch deep scratch on my right breast that kind of had a bumpy look to it as it was healing. I am wondering if the bumpy look was due to the depth of the scratch? The gash I had in the palm of my hand was much worse, it really needed a stitch or two but I just kept it clean and covered with over the counter antibotic cream.

Is she strictly an indoor kitty? Mine are indoor/backyard kitties and the one (Squid) loves digging up the lawn. I am allergic to grass and when I get a scratch from him it goes bubbly as well and I figure it is the grass "juice" under his nails. My other kitty (DeeDee) avoids the grass completely and her scratches never do that to me.

So maybe you are allergic to whatever she likes getting into.

I guess that may be possible though her and her siblings are all indoor cats...

Isn't it something related to cat scratch fever? Mhrr.... I can't remember

Though, is Mabby perhaps more fastidious than your other furbabies about preening her claws?

Their saliva is highly bacterial and that could be it?

I seem to remember there was something about bartonella (the thing most kitties are treated for)- even if your kitty is treated for it, he or she may just be a carrier for it.. so maybe mabby is just a natural born killer (of tiny mammals)

give the little booger a kiss and tell her Auntie Denise said be nice!

Ouch on the breast scratch!

I'm inclined to think that like humans, each cat has its own individual collection of bacteria in its claws & mouth. Maybe Mabby's got something in hers that is particularly disagreeable to your skin. I'm the same, sometimes they bubble up sometimes not. I think depth would have something to do with it too.

That is what I was going to suggest. As times my fall allergies are worse than normal and I think that's because they have the pollen on their fur.

Its the worst when you have a new one and they claw up your bare legs!!
