My cat has bad breath. He got a clean bill of health from the vet 2 weeks ago, but I forgot to ask about treating his bad breath. I am going to the vet tomorrow for him to get a booster shot, so I will ask about it tomorrow, but I also was hoping to hear what you guys thought I should do to get rid of it. Its bothers me because he likes to try to lick and groom me, and I always end up smelling like his breath.

No he is not on any special diet. The vet just told me to feed him wet food with a small amount of dry. He never even mentioned dental with me. I am going to ask him tomorrow. I want to have his teeth cleaned. And use some sort of kitty breath freshener, but there are so many different ones and with different ingredients. So I figured that I would get great advise from people with experience and then combine it with whatever the vet suggests tomorrow.

the vet may give you a bag of td by science diet... if so pay the price it can be used as treats for teeth cleaning just dont read the ingrediants... Zoey get s 6 feline greenies and both her dry food shave dental ingrediants ..

I use two different types of dental treats for Oliver (it's not real rank like he has gastrointestinal problems, but occasionally he gets some bad breath)... both types were bought in petsmart - one kind is in a little tin and theyre like kitty breath mints shaped like tiny fish... the other are in a pouch and are crispy on the outside but are stuffed with various things (I dont have the package right here)... both work pretty well for his occasionally nasty breath - Ollie man likes to groom his mommy too!

My Cricket's breath smelled REALLY bad when he was teething. Is he at the age to do that? If that's it, then it'll pass. But for a while there, whoa nelly...

Yep, that is the age! IT will pass in couple of weeks, maybe a month. Look around for baby teeth on the floor! (I am a little scary, I actually saved a couple from each of my cats and put them in their photo albums)

This also the time you may want to think about what you're going to do about dental care for your cat. This is one subject I know NOTHING about, but I'm sure others have great advice!

I am so glad we answered your question!

Eww, we're teething here too! Guess we're all in the same boat!
Anyone know why teething = smelly kitty breath?

Oliver's breath was definitely worse when he was little. Emma's breath now tends to be worse than his, probably because she usually eats the lions share of their wet food--even though she is 7 pounds lighter than Oliver she definitely out-eats him!

The feline greenies have been a big hit in my house as well--give em a try--you can buy sample bags at Petsmart.

Buffy has bad breath, and she's 2 years old now. I once got some breath mint things and they worked. She loved them and her breath wasn't making steel melt. But then we ran out and the bad breath came back. Gotta go out and get some more of them.
