The check was in the mail

For those of you who are familiar with Sunni's story and my personal experience with Bio Spot One-Step for cats, this will make sense.

Today I received a check from Farnam for complete reimbursement of vet bills associated with Sunni's death. Part of me doesn't even want to cash it, because it seems like the final step in letting her go. I am going to cash it, though, and donate it to my local Animal Protective League. It's the least I can do as penance for the horrible mistake I made with Sunni.

(((((HUGS))))) What a great way to honour Sunni's memory by donating the money. This may seem like the final step in letting her go, but she'll never be gone. She's always with you, watching over you until that day when you are reunited again.

Hon, please don't beat yourself up for what happened to Sunni. The people who are at fault here are the ones who let this horrible product remain on the market even though it is killing kitties. Obviously Farnam realizes they are at fault--otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to reimburse your vet bills. I know they can never "reimburse" you, really, emotionally, for what you've gone through, but at least now the money can help other kitties in need. Maybe you could take a little bit of the money and buy a nice memorial for Sunni. A nice picture, or a tree to plant in the garden, something to help you think of Sunni in a positive, happy way.

I can't imagine how sad it mustve been for you to open that envelope today, and I'm so, so sorry you've had to live through this awful experience. But, please, try to not feel guilty about what happened, you were only doing what you thought was best for your baby. If you ever need someone to talk to about all this, you can always PM me...us Illinois girls need to stick together!

I am so sorry that you lost Sunni. I think it's a wonderful idea to to honor Sunni's memory by donating the money.

Trying to do something positive with the money is a good choice. I'm sure getting that check in the mail just re opened some old wounds for you. I will be thinking of you tonight

He had started sleeping in the litterbox, I thought he was just upset that my Mother--in-Law had outstayed her welcome as far as Samson was concerned. Now, that I see this post, I remember that I had used Bio-Spot on Samson, since all 3 of my cats had quite the nasty flea problem last year, even though all 3 cats are indoor-only. I now wonder if Bio-Spot may have been what made Samson ill. When I had taken him to the vet to find out the cause, I didn't think to say about using Bio-Spot, other than to mention that I had treated all 3 with it to get rid of the fleas. The vet didn't mention anything about the fact that the Bio-Spot could have been the cause for Samson's behavior change....he just agreed with me that Samson was upset about the change in the household. And, at the time, I felt the vet was right...within a month or so after my MIL had finally left....Samson was totally back to normal...well, behavior-wise. He finally within the last month grew his hair back fully....his tail was very thin in fur, and he had a bald patch on his back. I don't totally want to blame my vet for not saying anything regarding the use of Bio-Spot...especially since only Samson was sick...so even I didn't think his issues could have been related to using Bio-Spot. Neither Emmy or Ranger acted "off" after their getting treated with it.
Now, I realize (hopefully) that the form of Bio-Spot I used last year is the original product....but I can say for sure I WILL NEVER use that product again!! Although, I am happy to say, this year was flea-free.....I dread to think what would have happened if we had had the flea problem again, since I wouldn't have known to stay away from Bio-Spot, and it probably would have been me posting of this tragedy happening to one of my cats...or even more.
I am so sorry Sunnicat for the hell you have been through....but I am so grateful that you shared your story and information that you gained through this horrible tragedy. Although it doesn't ease your pain, please take some comfort in the knowledge that through you, Sunni will not have died in vain.

Thank you so much to you all. I would not have found this site had it not been for the loss of Sunni, so I have that beautiful girl to thank for this, as well as so many other things in the five years we had together. Tonight will be a long night. It helps to know I'm not alone.

Unless you need the money to pay the vet dotating it seems like a great idea ... I know a shelter here puts names on the cages of a donor

Really sorry to hear about Sunni.

As we all know, hindsight is a wonderful thing, bu we cannot beat ourselves up over it. You did all you could for Sunni, and to use the money in her memory is a great idea. She did not die in vain, many owners are now aware of the problem through her, and the money will help other unfortunate cats.

The vet bills were already paid. Farnam had me send them copies and they reimbursed the cost. Sounds like an admission of guilt to me.

I agree. spend that money on some kind of memorial for your cat. I don't really know too much of the story other than reading this post but it doesn't take a lot to see that this is a very, very, very sad story and I am so sorry.

I don't know if it's insensitive to ask this but have you done anything to warn others of this? I may find an answer if I do some research on your posts but I think warning others of this tragedy could also be a way to honor your cat. You have a lot of people here who will support you. I've already posted this in a yahoo group I have for indoor cats. I will do anything I can to help spread the word, if you would like. Maybe even put together a website to warn others of this product and what it did to your cat? There are online petitions, maybe put one together to ban this product? I am thinking big, prematurely (since I don't know the whole story) but if this were me, I'd do everything to make sure it didn't happen to anyone else.

I will be thinking of you and I am sorry for your loss.

Don't beat yourself up about this! At the time you thought you were doing what was best for your cat. That's all that any of us try to do. You had no idea what the consequences were, and if you did, you wouldn't have done it. Why would you have possibly thought that a product that was readily available in the store would lead to that? They obviously realize THEY are the ones at fault.

I like the idea of a tree or something like that for a memorial, and then donating the rest.

I posted my last post going off memory from what I read yesterday (before other posts were made). I am going to look at that link now and read it. I really think you should do something BIG, if you have it in you, to warn others! I think it's a great way to stop this from happening to others. I can put together a website (I did for my husband's construction co.) that warns others.. we can try and get others to share their stories (like you had on this thread). I think it's great that you are sharing your story here. There's someone in the group that I have that was just asking advice on this very matter- so you may have very well prevented someone else from buying their product. That's all it takes- these stories spread like wild fire - especially when you have everyone helping you!

Good luck!

I was not aware of Sunni's story until reading that thread . Oh my how I am so sorry for your loss . I can only imagine the grief that you are still enduring .
I am 100% positive that Sunni loves you and is purring down on you from the Bridge. You donating that check is a beautiful way to honor her memory .
You're absolutely not alone!

Sunnicat,

I thought this may be useful to you ... I found it when I did a search on another product (Zodiac) that someone in my group was asking about. This site has a testimony on it from someone who says it killed two of their cats.

Subject: Zodiac flea/troll drops killed our cats
Date: 11/21/2004
From: Andrei andreikraev@yahoo.ca
We have just lost 2 cats because of Zodiac flea trol drops. They died one after another , 2 healthy pets, we used this Zodiac drops for about 2 moths as instructed on the package. The vet said it went through the skin and damaged the lever. We will e-mail the company as well. Can you please advise if there is any way we can add our testimony to some sort of petishen to stop making this drog, and let more pets owner know about the real danger.

The Wellmark International Inc doesn't want to take responsibility, and never admit that Zodiac Flea troll (drops) could be dangerous. After 3 weeks of ignoring our e-mails we send a letter to the company with the package of Zodiac Flea troll. Wellmark International Inc. responded to us with the letter from DVM Jordan Siegal (head of consumer relation department)that the symptoms are very similar to other diseases and Zodiac flea troll has nothing to do with the death of our cats. Our cats were never exposed to any other chemicals and the letter contain a lot of scientific stuff no one can make sense of any way. They even didn't bother to offer a refund to "unsatisfied customers" even though it was not about money from our part. In order to prove our case to them we have to dig out our cats from the backyard and do the autopsy, and than what? Hire a lawyer to fight Wellmark International Inc. They will get away with it any way, this is multi billion dollars industry. They have all the bases covered. We have wrote letters anywhere we could - NPIC, Veterinarian Collage, Humane Society and private web sites to make people aware of the danger of Zodiac products.

That was off of this website:
