Touched by the story of the little boy who lost his dog Snowball (who contrary to reports has still not be found or reunited with his owner - in fact, many ovf the pets taken at the Super Dome were placed in a stairwell and did not survive), a woman started a web site to reunite owners and pets and there is now an award - growing - for anyone who finds Snowball.

The site is:

I was heartbroken by that story as well, since it has circulated all over the news...I hope to hear some good news because this story I think has resonated with all of us, pet lovers or not -- that these people have lost everything and now they have to get rid of their pets.
So tragic

I've been thinking of that as well. If that's the same little dog I saw on a clip, it looked like (from the glimpse I got) a little Bichon Frise, or something of the sort. It was set outside of a bus

Have been saying those words all week long!! These people have been told to leave everything behind...they have lost everything and in addition, they are being told no pets allowed at shelters!! It is a very tragic mind-set!! Very sad.

It is so sad. Thoes poor people they have lost everything and they saved their pets only to give them up before they are allowed on the buses for evacuation. It just is not right. You just should not take the ONLY living thing a person has left. It just adds tremendously to their trauma.
They said that a lot of the people that are left and won't evacuate are people that won't leave their animals. Now the Mayor told the rescuers to not give the people food and water who won't leave. This is a travesty. It is so upsetting.

I feel so bad for those people and those animals that knew something was going on but couldn't run away. How do you even handle that sort of thing? I wouldn't even know how to emotionally make it through the first night..

Thank you for posting this.

The thought of people being separated from their pets (which to most of us are family) after all they've gone through makes me sad and frustrated beyond words.

There has also been a Yahoo! group started to help reunite hurricane victims & their pets - hurricanepets · Hurricane Pets Reunited

I don't know if anyone saw it but there was a guy -- lookin like your typical burned out Bourbon St guy
-- who was hanging out on a raft in front of what is left of his home and he said, "When all the looting happened, the only thing I could trust was my dog. You want me to leave him now? No way, I'll stick it out here with him." The media played this guy out to be crazy, maybe they are right but let me tell you...I would find every way to get my kitties there. There was even a story about an elderly couple...I mean, maybe early 60s or so, the wife could get around, her hubby was ill and in a wheelchair or something and they had I think two dogs...anyway they were like "we'll evacuate you but you lose the dogs" and the couple was like NO WAY. Even the husband...I can't even imagine what these owners are going through...
Some have even opted for euthanasia for their older pets, even though healthy, they don't want them to have to try to survive through this ordeal
