Please can some one help me? Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m getting pretty desperate now. I have a seven week old kitten (I bought her a week ago) who is ill. The breeder lied about her age, claiming she is 10 weeks old. Within two hours of arriving home I had to rush her to the vet where she stayed for two nights.

She is a little better this week but the only things she would eats were raw chicken and baby food. She refused to eat anything else until today when she ate a good amount (for her) of whiskas junior pouch. I only bought it because my other kitten Rocket used to eat that in his old home before we got him. We eventually got him to eat the science plan. Today she started to drink water on her own although we had to force feed her some royal canine (feline) convalescence support.

Does anyone know how long it will take her to get better? Are seven week kittens usually like this? She has been eating and drinking water on her own today but she is so lethargic all she does is sit on her snugglekittie and sleep.

Can some one please give me some advice?

It's always best to play safe and give your vet a quick call, especially if she's lethergic

It may be nothing but unless the vet sees what she looks like it's really hard to say?!

I got her too young 24 hours after her vaccine and she was extremely dehydrated. She hasn't recovered from this fully yet.

I agree that at least a phone call to the vet is in order. I'm curious as well about what the vet said was most likely the problem.

It's a good sign that she's starting to eat on her own but the vet can give you a better idea of what to expect for her particular illness.

Was it the Leukemia shot she had?.

I don't give mine it now, but when i did i know this one makes them feel off colour for about 24 hours, and my vet always said that if they were still the same after the 24 hours to take them back.

Just got back from the vet and settled her down. He says she has a mild case of an upper-respiratory illness. However, he is very encouraged by the fact that she is eating and drinking on her own. He gave her this special food that we can try feeding her for the next two weeks, either on her own or by syringe. I feel so much more reassured by the vet visit, I can start seeing an end to her illness.

My vet is so nice that he said I can call whenever I need to and he didn't charge me for the check up or the food. Being a student I am highly appreciative of this.

Oh i'm so relieved that you took her to see the vet, and i bet you are now
And thats excellent that your vet didn't charge you for a checkup or her special food
I know when my two were spayed they sent me home with a couple of tins of special nursing food which i didn't have to pay for either

I'm so glad that she's doing better. I would take action against this awful person.

I think lots of kittens come into households and bring upper respiratory infections if they are coming from a multi-cat household. I would have the kitten checked for worms also and a FELV test. If you are worried give the kitten some KMR its cheaper if you buy the powder and mix it up yourself. I can't say I've ever had a cat that didn't just inhale it!!! I used warmer water I don't know if it made a difference or not.
Lots of times there nose is stuffy and they can't smell the food as well so that is sometimes why they don't want to eat

I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm going crazy. Everytime I try to syringe feed her she spits out most of the food. I don't know what to do! Does anyone have advice?

Have you tried giving her Pedialyte? At least some of that may stay down if she is not vomiting. Good luck - If she continues to refuse to eat, you may have to get your vet to replmish fluids with an IV. Cats cannot afford to NOT eat - they need to eat tho when they are sick, their sense of smell is not as good so they tend not to eat. I wish you and Dani all the best!!

I had to syringe feed Oliver once when he had a bad upper respiratory infection. The best way I found to do it was to wrap him, snugly, in a towel so he couldn't wiggle away--so he couldn't move his arms or legs but his head was peeking out. Then, I'd sick the syringe in his mouth on the side of his mouth--made it harder form him to spit it out that way. squirt in a little bit of food at a time, mixed with water. I also gave him Felovite, which is a vitamin supplement I got from my vet, and would give him syringes of water after the food and felovite to wash it all down. He pretty much hated me, but once his congestion broke a little he started eating on his own.
You can also get one of the little baby aspirator things at the drugstore (they look like tiny turkey basters) to help suck the snot out of kitties nose.
Yes, its gross, but if they can breathe freely and smell their food they're more likely to eat.
The things we do for our kitties.

I had to give Sophie some meds for an upset tummy with a syringe, and in the end i had it down to a fine art!.

I'd get down on my knees behind her, then take hold of her jaw underneath and gently put the syringe in at the side of her mouth and squeeze.

Obviously it was only a small amount that i needed to give her but she took it no problem that way.

Oh but give a treat or something tasty afterwards
