Hello, I'm new and I need advise. My son found a kitten the other day in our yard. At first he seemed fine, just a bit dirty. After close examination we noticed the hair on his back was clumpy with dried blood. Obviously attacked, or even hit by a car. We cleaned him up real good with soap & water, but just to find that blowflies had laid eggs around his hip area. We've been washing him off, and keeping the flies away, and he seems to be doing much better. I'm still concerned with his health though. I can't afford the vet bills, but I can't turn my back on him either. The eggs seem to be gone, but he won't eat much (only a bite here and there). He has "slime" in both eyes, and his nose, and has trouble breathing through it. He is skinny and weak, and sleeps all the time. If anyone has some suggestions, I'm all ears. By the way we named him Marv. Short for Marvel. Thanks!

Well i am new hear but ....all i can suggest is that Marv needs to be seen. I know you don't have the money, but maybe a shelter could help, ot the humane society??

Good luck

He really needs medical attention. If that is truly an impossibility for you, you might want to contact a rescue organization. Sometimes they have vet techs or very experienced caregivers working with them and they can give advice. It's not a good substitute for veterinary attention but it's much better than nothing. But over the Internet, there's not a whole lot we can do to help unfortunately.

I got skwieker a little over a week ago from a friend that worked to another apartment building. I took her to the vet that night and had her checked out che is two years old and only about 2 lbs ( or she was at first shes starting to gain some weight ) last night she started meowing really loud for her ( she's very quite) I didn't know what was wrong so I watched her after about ten minutes she rolled on her back and kind of moved around funny like she was itching herself. know what she does is she kinda crouches down on her legs with her stomach just slightly over the ground. When my freind found her she was giving her wet food about four days ago I started giving her dry food. This moring I called an emergancy vet they told me to take her to my vet on tuesday but I'm worried about her. A little bit ago I was petting her and massaging her she likes it and right below her butt and above her knees as I rubbed it seemed to hurt her does anyone know what it could be. She is eating just fine she has a little diarriea and when I got a can of wet food out of the cupboard she went crazy like she was just fine so that makes me think she can't be in that much pain if she is freaking out about her food before I even open the can.

Please give me any imput you can
Thank You very much

I got this cat from my another person that worked at a different apartment community on friday august 26th, she called me and told me that she caught a cat that had been around the property for a couple of weeks and it was starting to starve she's allergic to cats so she couldn't take it. I took the cat to the vet that night and got her checked out she was fine. The vet told me to wait three to five weeks to get her shots till she gained some weight because she had no fat on her. After her tests came back fine I introduced her to my two other cats they are both 1 year old this month I got them from the human society together when they where two months old this new cat is about two the vet said. She didn't eat for about 3 weeks we are guessing when we first got her we gave her wet food now about four days ago I started giving her dry kitten food. On friday night she started to meow kind of loud for her (we call her skwiker bucause she has such a little meow ) when I looked at her she was kind of crouched down low with her stomach not touching the ground I can't tell if her tummy hurts I think she has a little diarria, it's hard to tell though with three cats but someone does and they don't cover it up so I think it is her. When she crouches down her butt is really exposted so that is what makes me think she has diarria. One thing that worries me and the reason I am on her is that she has dried milk on her nipples and when I was rubbing her butt and belly last night when I thought she had a tummy ach I think some clear slimy stuff came out of her private parts I don't want to waste the money taking her to the vet if it is just diarria. One more thing she is eating fine when I took a can of wet food out of the cupboard she went crazy like she wasn't in any pain at all (before I even opened the can) and I notice she is not always crouched down in pain it only happens some time and when I rubb her butt she acts like it hurts a little it's hard for me to tell.

I'd like all your impute, please

Thank you Katherine

It sounds like that to me too that kitty is probably in heat.

By your description, I would say your kitten has a fairly severe URI. This needs to be treated or he probably will not eat. Cats won't eat what they can't smell and distinguish as palatable.
Unfortunately when a cat doesn't eat he can become very ill from liver problems that may not be able to be reversed even when he starts eating again.
It is important that you get that kitten to a Vet to have his URI treated right away. This isn't something you can cure at home at this point.

Vets will sometimes work out payment plans with you to help make it not such a financial burden. I would never be harsh, as I understand your situation. While you must go to the vet, it may be helpful if you can aspirate his little nose with a syringe or ball aspirator (baby thing). This will NOT cure him, it will just make it a bit easier for him to breathe. And you may have to do it very frequently.

I beg of you to respect his little kitty life and get him some care (try the rescue organization idea if all else fails). Help Marv live...he is with you for a reason! Wish you luck and send you lots of care...

call your local shelter they often have vets on staff or know of some very sympathetic ones that will make payment arrangements of some kind

It sounds to me like she may be in heat, although I can't be positive without seeing her. It also sounds like she may have recently had kittens, with the milk on her nipples. Again, these are just guesses. This cat needs to see a vet ASAP. Maybe you can work out some sort of payment plan?

Your kitten most likely was a upper respiratory infection for sure which antibiotics ususally work quite quickly. The vet could also give you an eye ointment which again works fast. But I agree with the others that this cat should be seen. Also don't give the kitten cows milk-their digestive tract doesn't like it.

I agree - I think she is in heat. Keep her inside and strictly isolated from any unneutered male cats, and get her spayed ASAP (as in tomorrow if possible).
