New kitty

Hi, I love my 2 year old female cat, but we just brought home a 2 month female kitten from the shelter and I am so nervous about the introduction process. I have the new kitten (Lucy) in a spare bedroom with everything she needs, our older cat (May) get the run of the house. I have exchanged scents, it's only been a week since we've had Lucy, and she hisses at the kittens scent. Also, Lucy is a "door dasher" and has gotten out of the room when we have opened the door. May hisses and growls at her. The last couple of times Lucy has gotten out we try to distract them both with a toy, but May eventually starts growling and hissing again. She actually ended up chasing Lucy and swatting hard at her while hissing and growling. I know that this is a gradual thing and we need to start over and make sure the cats do not see eachother at all, but it there light at the end of the tunnel? I feel bad leaving Lucy in the bedroom crying when we leave her. I am a nervous wreck and wonder if even little introductions will go well. Help!!!!!!
