The story so far:
Last weekend a little white cat showed up on my doorstep. She was very friendly and I noticed she was pregnant so I brought her inside and set her up in one of my large dog crates. I took her to the vet the next morning and sure enough, she was pregnant. Thankfully I know of a rescue group and they will take her and the babies when the babies are 2 lbs. They will spay and neuter and adopt out. The mom is young and I'm sure this is her first litter. She is doing well enough. She had 4 babies 3 days ago. I've been weighing them every day to make sure they are gaining weight. All seems to be well. I noticed mom had some bloody discharge today but reading the forum that seems normal. She stays away from the kittens more than I thought she would - what is normal? I am keeping her in the crate unless I am in the room to supervise because I don't want her to move the babies under the couch or try to get out the window. My dogs are going nuts because she is in my office where they hang out with me and now the door is shut to them.....I don't want to introduce them while the babies are so young. I have a kitty condo (large cat cage) on order so they will have more room soon. That's it, just thought I would share. Mom and baby pics are on my Dobe website - www.dobedepot.com.

All the animals are beautiful! I am partial to white cats - as well as my Persil I am now fostering two white kittens! Good luck with Jasmine - she is lucky to have found you. A week or so ago I, a cat person, rescued a puppy I found but I was able to send her to a friend who fosters dogs.

Denise..welcome and glad to read you are caring for this cat and that she and her babies have a place to go once she has weaned them. By ignoring..is she just spending more time away from them then you thought she would? Do the kittens seem healthy and well fed? When I fostered a mom and her kittens..every time I went into the room, she would spend time away from her kittens because she wanted to interact with me. I had the entire family in my bathroom. Mom did go back to them whenever she felt they needed feeding.

Hi, Denise! Jasmine is a very pretty, and very lucky girl to have found someone who cared enough to do what you have done for her and the babies. They are so cute! Your dogs are all beautiful, too!

I thought she would stay with them most of the time. Turns out she knows what she is doing, the babies are all gaining weight and doing well.

Yes, these little Mommas do seem to know what they are doing ... since the little ones pretty much eat and sleep and do nothing much else, Momma can take breaks away from them - so long as they are gaining weight and growing normally, sounds like everything is fine.

Continued best of luck,

All of your babies are beautiful! I love Monet and Dijon's holiday pics. They look so well loved!...
I am partial to dobes (both mine have long since passed to RB and am now in an apt. so have to wait to move into my house before I adopt another big lapbaby..
)

Thanks to you for taking these kits in and giving them a healthy start.
Having never fostered baby cats, I don't have anything to offer but my gratitude.
