My Cj plays fetch with little caps off of body spray and hairspray, he will not play it with anything else. I never taught him, this is a game he just started playing one day and he really seems to enjoy it.

So it got me thinking, does anyone else's cat play fetch?

Sophie does it with her toy lobster. It was pretty funny when the lobster was almost bigger than she was!

Clinton sometimes will, usually with a foam ball or something he can chew on and bat around, but only on his terms. I can't initiate the game of fetch, he just uses me when he wants something!

Yep! He started on his own when he was a kitten. He just started bringing me things and somehow I knew he wanted them thrown. He will keep bringing them back until he gets bored. He brings me whatever he feels would be a good fetch toy, I guess. Usually it's toys and plastic bottle caps!

Other.

Yes, Bella will fetch. But only at night, when I throw her mousies on the floor in a feeble attempt to make her let me sleep.

I dunno.
And when I don't throw it, she won't cuddle with me for at least 5 minutes. It's kinda strange. After I've thrown it a few times, she comes up to me, MEOWMEOWMEOW. She wants me to dim the lights, make popcorn, put in a movie and sit down. Then she jumps up on my lap and I give her very small pieces on popcorn( without a kernal in it) to her. It's our own Happy Hour.

Lola sometimes does, with a little coaxing. Both cats generally come when called (I'd say somewhere between 80 and 90 percent of the time), but sometimes you can get Lola to bring you her toys. Leo won't fetch. In fact, the only toys he likes are string toys, small stuffed animals (think beanie baby sized) and the occassional furry mouse that's big enough for him to wrestle with!

My male furbaby plays fetch. I have no idea how he learned it though. He will bring me his purple and white mouse, never any of the others, and sit and stare at me till I throw it. He will run after it roll around with it throw it up in the air. Then he will pick it up and bring it back to me but my bare feet better be on the floor or he won't give me the mouse back. He has to set it on top of one of my feet. The fetch game will continue until he has had enough and on the last fetch he will take it to a shoe and drop it in. Just to make sure it stays put, he punches at it until its at the toe of the shoe. I don't remember how many times I put on my shoes and found his mouse. If he sees me pull it out he is ready to play agaqin. In the mornings I leave the mouse there and limp my way to the car before removing it...out of his sight. What else can I do...I have to go to work, I can't play fetch all day.

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Sierra loves to chase after her toys, but rarely returns them.

Serenity will take off like a streak of lightening after her toy and most often return it ready for me to throw it again!

My RB kitty, Christy, loved to play fetch and would bring her special back over and over and over!

Reilly loves to play fetch. He'll only do it with his little foam balls though...sometimes if I throw 2 he'll bring both back in his mouth. Never have been able to get a picture of that though.

Harley will play fetch whenever HE wants to! If i toss his toy mouse across the room, he will always chase after it as fast as he can, but will only return it to me if he really wants to! Of course when I want to play he always has different thoughts in mind!

I think it's all in the breed and personality. I know breeds like the Siamese and Japanese Bobtail are characterized as being fetchers. I have a Mau that'll fetch, but only one of them will.

Maybe some cats are too smart to play fetch, they can figure out that you're just going to throw the toy again once they bring it back.

Being the snoot she is (and I say that as lovingly as I can
), Eponine will not indulge me in a game of fetch.
Cosette on the other hand....we joke and say she came out of her momma's womb playing fetch!
We're constantly waking up to find toys strewn about the bed that Cosette brought us throughout the night in the hopes of another game of fetch!

Sounds like Pixel, my only 'fetching' cat! she will bring me a toy, & meow loudly & piteously until i take pity on her & throw it. then she brings it most of the way back, & meows again. usually i refuse to throw it until she brings it closer, & sometimes she will, but other times, she just quits. also, if i throw it & it doesn't go far enough (i'm not the world's best thrower, ha, ha!) she'll give me a look that says, 'yeah, right, i'm going to bother with that!'
the other 2 are not the least bit interested in fetch. now, soccer, on the other hand...

My Ocicat, Savannah, plays fetch. The boys will steal her mouse, but they don't bring it back. Yet. Maybe someday.
