Hi i am new here
I have a question. I have 1 cat is between 12-13 yrs. old, she is thew only cat in the house and is an indoor cat. The only other two animals in the house are hamsters. (She could care less about them
Anyways i have noticed my cats left ear only twitching quite a bit, also she shakes her head, she doesn't like it if i pet her head on that side either. Now she had ear mites once before and i knew she had them, same thing shaking her scratching her ears, but, i could hear fluid moving around, so the vet said it was mites we did the medicine and she was ok.
This is a little different, it never seems to bother her when she is sleeping, she also seems to be sleeping more often, and is not as cuddly as she used to be, she seems to be almost uncomfortable when i hold her. Normally she jumps right up on me and sleeps for a while. Now she seems to prefer to be alone.
Does this sound like mites to you.
I will also mention, i have seen her take what i belive to be seizures from time to time, but have not seen that for a while. Also she is not eating as much.
Any ideas???

I am no an expert but could ben inner ear infection, even an older one, which also can cause seizures in some cases.
I would have it checked out by a vet, it can be pretty serious.

Hi Luvs2be,
Have you checked your kitty's ear? Very lightly pulling on the tip of the affected ear, look all the way down and see if you can see any black residue in there. If there is, go to your vet.

Her other symptoms also suggest it could be an allergy, although I would suspect the ear mites first. What food brand does kitty get, and wet or dry? Many animals have an allergy, or develop an allergy to corn related by-products, so if you are feeding dry check the bag and see what the ingredients are.

If you are feeding a high quality food and kitty's ears look fine, then a vet visit is definitely in order. Make sure when you schedule the appointment that you tell them it is a possible ear mite infestation so that other visiting/lodged animals are suitably quarantined from your baby.

Hi guys, thanx for the replies.....She eats Purina indoor formula. I tried to look in her ear, man does she get pissed
I am going to have to pin her down to get a look

If it was earmites wouldn't it be in both ears??
She is obviously very bothered when i touch her ear, she puts it down and ducks way from my hand.

If she were my kitty I would not try to guess what the problem is. I would get her to an emergency vet today. It sounds like she is in pain & needs to be treated.

There is not an ER vet around here to be honest with you. I plan on taking her tuesday when all the docs are back from labor day weekend.

I want to ad that i found a 24hr. hosp. a few towns over....If need be i will take her there, i will be watching her very carefully.

You should take her to a vet as soon as possible. I would think it's an inner ear infection. I have no expereince with cats and ear infections, but all our dogs had it, and they had the same symptoms. She is probably in pain as well...(just thinking since I had ear infections too and it was painful to me, so I imagine it's just as painful for animals

Safest thing is to take her to a vet
Good luck

Sylvester is really beautiful.
Thanks for adding her picture to your siggy.
If she has not had a full workup at your vets recently, including a "senior blood panel",
it would be smart to take her in for a check up right away.
I'm glad that she seems to feel better but it is always better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks for the update.

Hi. This concerns my 10 yr old female cat's bilateral ear twitching for the last 24 hours. There seems this summer to be a citywide mosquito & flea infestation.  I also have 15 & 1yr old rescued males and a 6yr old female service dog.  I bathed each separately with Adams dog/cat flea shampoo put the cats in carriers on the outside porch while I bombed the apt as I do yearly.  After vacuuming etc, I let them all back in and zoom, the 1 yr old flew under the porch fence.  Then the next day the 15yr old squeezed himself thru the door (left open only wide enuf for the 1yr old) and brought him back and I bathed him again. They all got flea treatments 24hrs after shampoo.

Inside the ear canal I can see no wax, dirt or bugs.  First, I applied OTC mite drops, later, vet-supplied ear wash solution.  She is eating, as comfortable being held as usual but the ears continue the twitching and she rubs them with her paws; all others seem fine.

I am on disability and have no money (no income until 2 weeks from now). What can I do? It has been difficult securing a family vet since I have moved to Charalotte, NC.  Billing seems to be unheard of. When in NY I had only 2 vets over 25yrs of pet ownership.   All are up to date on Rabies/Distemper and dog Parvo vaccines (the Hum Soc. mistakenly applied canine Rab/Dist (they swear no but that is what the medical record indicates) on the 1 yr old cat who went into cardiac arrest while being neutered. After temporary blindness, "brain damage" (loss of ability to walk and eat on his own), a 1 week hospital stay then at-home intensive care  he is back to normal. WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE 10YR OLDS EAR TWITCHING? i CANNOT PAY A VET FOR 2 WEEKS AND AM BEYOND STRESSED WITH CONCERN. Awaiting much needed advice.
