Rho, the last of my three cats and my favorite, passed away last night in his sleep of natural causes. He was 19 years old, and had used his nine lives over the years to survive many medical crises including FUS, hyperactive thyroid, skin cancer, pyothorax, and diabetes. Finally, his arthritis had gotten to a point where he had great difficulty getting around, and just couldn't take care of himself anymore. We were resigned to euthanizing him, and the procedure was scheduled for this afternoon, but nature stepped in and took him first.
I feel happy because Rho was a beautiful and sweet boy who loved and was well loved himself. He had many good years with us, and is now no longer burdened by his ailments. He went quietly and naturally, as I would like to go myself someday.
He will be missed very much.
Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on euthanasia in an earlier thread.
