Kooshie obsessive about her belly

My babygirl, Kooshie, is expected to deliver anyday now. She is on day 60. SHe has her box in the perfect place that SHE chose, Kooshie is VERY vocal about her needs, and tries her best to always get her way. Kooshie is 9 years old, and this is her second litter, she is an indoor cat but learned to take the screen out of the window during her last heat (she can also open the cupboards, and if I give her enough time I'm sure she'll figure out the fridge too, even if it means enlisting the help of Mikah, our dog).

Anyway, my problem is that she wants her belly rubbed all the time, she follows around the house chasing me, and then lies down for me to rub her belly. The faster I walk away from her, the louder she meows and the faster she runs. Its kind of comical really. I have taken her to the veternarian and they have assured me everything is fine with both Kooshie and her 3 kittens.
Has anyone else encountered this or something similar with their pregnant cats?

My husband also says that when I leave for work, she sits in the window and whines constantly for my return. When I walk through the door she is right there, begging for her belly to be rubbed.

I dont know if this is a factor or not, but we also have 5 other cats and a dog (they all get along wonderfully).

Kayos....Gaye who is the moderator would be the best person to answer your question. Since you know the exact date of mating, should I assume that this is a planned pregnancy?? The reason I ask is that I am known as the person who can provide low cost spay/neuter options to individuals who have found themselves with a pregnant cat by accident and need to have the mom spayed once the kittens are weaned. If you still need a low cost clinic for when mom weans the kittens, just let me know.

Hi Katie,
The reason I know the exact date of mating is because Kooshie is an indoor cat, and never goes outside, but one rainy night...lol, you get the point, she broke through the screen in the window, and to make a long story short, came back smiling. Four days after this happened Kooshie took a trip to the vet and they confirmed she was very newly pregnant. Prior to this she had absolutely no way to get pregnant. I didn't even really think about getting Kooshie fixed since she is the only female I have, as the rest are all males and are all nuetered. At first I thought maybe one of them was the culprit, but she has gone into heat many times over the years, and has never gotten pregnant. So, it had to have been that evening. I think getting her spayed is a very good idea now, as to prevent any further rendez vous's she may decide to have in the future. My only concern is she is such a little cat, weighing only three pounds, and I'm concerned about her gaining too much weight for her small frame, she is very healthy though. Are there many low cost spay clinics that you are aware of in Maine?
I am new to this forum, can you tell me, do I have to post someplace else to get the moderator to respond, as you suggested that may be the best person to answer about Kooshie and her belly.
Right now, she is stretched out on my computer desk, on her back, meowing like crazy when ever I stop rubbing her belly. I dont think she can wait until her kittens are born. lol, it's almost as if she's saying "mommy get them out of here....yesterday!"

Hopefully one is near you. You don't have to post in a special section...Gaye typically comes on the board at least once a day. She is a breeder of old style siamese and currently has a new litter of kittens..so as you can imagine, she is pretty occupied with that..but she is wonderful and I'm sure she will have advice for you. Plus, we have many members who have already gone through the pregnant cat phase and can also offer advice. Definately feel free to ask any questions.

I would recommend that you keep Kooshie someplace where she has no access (even accidentally) outdoors after she has her kittens because she can go back into heat fairly soon after giving birth (I had a friend whose cat ended up having 5 litters because she became pregnant again before her spay date and would not want that to happen to anyone else).

Keep checking the message board and glad you found your way to this board.

Belly rubbing is always appreciated in myhome, but not so strongly encouraged by my girl ... LOL. My husband is chief belly rubbing officer and toy thrower, but since Lexus had her babies on Wednesday, she isn't much interested in whatever role she normally trains him to play.

I think it is probably normal *for your girl*, but if you have any doubts whatsoever then it is always best to ask your normal vet, who knows you and knows your girl.

IMO, it is too late to spay her now, allow her to deliver her babies, raise them, and when they are eating and littering on their own consistantly, then get Momma altered.

I haven't been around much - sorry.

Best of luck, I'll check in later on today to see how things are going,

Just as a clarification....I listed the low cost clinics for when the mom cat has weaned her kittens and is ready to be spayed.

Thanks for the clinic lists, I will certianly put them to good use!.

It did seem odd to me that the vet was able to tell Kooshie was pregnant so soon, IMHO, I think he was just speculating because she had gotten out and was in heat. But who knows.

Well, last evening Kooshie gave birth to four beautiful kittens. She was in labor for almost two and a half hours before the first kitten was born, and then before we could blink, they were all here. Three of them are doing very well, and the other one is actually taking a trip to the vet today. It looks like the kitties intestines are on the outside of her body, either that or she has a really thick and curly umbelical cord. Kooshie is still taking care of her, nursing her and bathing her constantly, she hasn't rejected the kitten at all, and the kitten appears otherwise healthy. So we are taking momma and the babies to the vet to make sure everything is allright.

Glad to hear.
I had one like the in a litter but it was born dead (long, thick, curly umbilical cord). Wishing your little kitten the best. Do let me know what the vet says about it!

We took the kitten to the vet, and she was suprised that the kitten was doing so well, in spite of the pain he must have been in. He was strong, healthy and had a very strong will to live. Unfortunately, it was the kittens intestines, and there was nothing the vet could do for the kitten, whom my daughter named Czar, so he was euthanized in order to end his suffering. The vet said its a birth defect and there wasnt anything Kooshie or we could have done to prevent it. But its still sad ya know.

I'm sorry about Czar....I lost a foster kitten to pneumonia and it was heartwrenching so I understand.
