OMG Bush suggests what?

I cant even find the words right now to discribe how I feel! Bush just suggested that fund raisers need to be started to aid the Katrina victims, and all the help and everyone down there trying to rescue these victims, their work is unexceptable!
First of all Bush sends billions over to help the tsunami victims. Which would be OK if there was billions to help our own people too. But I just heard there isnt, and Katrina's victims will be waiting a long time for any assistance from our government.
Second, for all the rescue workers trying to do whatever they can for the Katrina victims without much to work with....I thank you for doing what you can.

He asked for and got a special session of Congress to approve 10 billion for the relief effort. I heard him talking and I believe he was saying that the lawless situation in NO is unacceptable.

Yeah, Heidi...the bill is on its way today for him to sign it...Congress actually got off its butt and did something in a hurry for a change!

Thats great! New Orleans will once again be great! I saw pictures of Bush down there hugging and kissing a victim. (that sounds sordid, but it was just on the head) At least he does that. I had no doubt he would send down money.

Bush does get emotional. It endears him to me. I don't think it is phony, I really do believe the man cares and feels deeply for people.

ckblv - I agree with you, I am not a fan of Bush but I do think he does care. Remember the little girl he hugged after 9-11?

Yes, I remember and it meant so much to that girl and her father. I am glad you are able to say that even if you aren't a Bush fan. Bless you for being so fairminded.

I think his response has been deplorable. In Canada, we have emergency supplies ready to go, generators, water filtration systems, and he told our Prime Minister that he'll let us know if they need help. And people are dying. Where was he on Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday, or Thursday?

I cannot see any positive spin on his actions. This is way too little, too late. Yes, money will go to rebuild, but what about the possibly thousands of lives lost during the week while they were waiting for someone to do something.

I believe that the man has very very bad advice.

You heard wrong I believe, we are turning down no ones' help. Oh you think Canada has the supplies just sitting around "ready to go" for this scope of disaster? I very much doubt it my friend.

Although the response has been, in Bush's own words, "unacceptable" I don't think HE had anything to do with that. It's a bureaucracy at it's worst. The local/state governments don't want to spend their budgets so they were waiting on federal assistance (that's what I heard that a mayor of another city in LA said - Baton Rouge maybe?). The feds have so much red tape to go through it's ridiculous and were basically expecting the state/locals to do the initial first response. The state governors have direct control over all of the National Guard troops, and until they are requested they can't send them. (They were requested on Wednesday/Thursday, I believe, and I know our governor said that they all had to get specific innoculations as well as debriefing before leaving. 450 of our, Colorado's National Guard, troops left today.)

I don't doubt it. Trained rescue workers have already been dispatched and some folks in Vancouver are bringing animals to a facility to be cared for here in Canada.

Canada is usually one of the first countries to send help, supplies or whatever is needed. Our rescue people are highly trained and go to do what they do best and are being trained or prepared for on an ongoing basis - not just when there is a disaster.

David Brooks, conservative columnist is even syaing he is angry at Bush, there was no leadership, where was he?He waited way too long, Brooks calls this the anti 9/11 in that it is going to sway public opnions. Public feeling is shifting and this may have done it fully.

I heard today that FEMA didn't respond right away because they JUST found out about it YESTERDAY! What kind of doo-doo is that?

The media also interviewed truckers from texas that had loads of water ready to go on Monday but the said "bossmen" told them they couldn't go. What kind of major doo-doo is that?
