I was thinking last night how completely wonderful purring is - and how it's just one of the most precious things about the cat species.

Sashka was hiding under the lounge-throw, on the ground where it hangs over the couch. I poked her very softly on the butt, and she immediately went onto her back, four paws in the air, kicking away like mad (she LOVES to play when she is covered up - dunno what it is!!). I was tickling and teasing her, and she was playing back - poking a little paw out from under the cover here and there...and the whole time just purring away like a little motor. It was beautiful and made me feel so happy that I was making her happy!!

Then she hopped up on the lounge for a big smooch and fell asleep purring on my lap. She always stops, though, as soon as she's fully asleep - can't do both at the same time.

Sunday purrs without stopping, all the time, sleep or not. That cat is so full of love I think it's numbed her brains a bit, sometimes...lol!

When do your kitties purr the most?

When I'm laying in bed in the morning both my kittens come and jump on the bed, immediately start purring, and don't stop til I get up. It's the best way in the world to get woken up

Rosie purrs when she wants a treat or when she jumps onto my lap to get scritches

Sophie purrs on request!, you just have to bend down to stroke her and she'll headbutt anything near to her and start purring

Ollie will immediately purr if I'm scritching his face/ears/neck area, but he also purrs to put me to sleep... he has to lay right next to my head (usually on one of the pillows) and he'll curl up and start purring.... it's weird to sleep somewhere without him now that I'm used to the purring to fall asleep!

When I get home at night from work Harley runs to me at full speed purring like crazy! We usually cuddle for a good 1/2 hr while he gives me kisses and takes a nap on my lap, all the while he's purring like mad, I just love it, its the best sound in the entire world! Even if I've had a horrible day, just hearing him purr makes it all go away!

With Tigger, we say you have to "earn the purr"... she won't just do it for anyone at anytime. She needs to be snuggled for a few minutes before she'll purr.

Callie purrs more than not... she purrs on my lap, as I'm preparing her food, when she's eating and as she's falling asleep. If I lean over to pick her up, she's purring before I get to her. And she has the loudest cat purr I've ever heard! It just melts away my stress after a long workday

Sophie does the pillow purring, too. I love listening to her as I fall asleep!

It was so wonderful to hear the first purrs from my two little strays! To know they at last felt comfortable, even though they are nowhere near healthy yet.

My lil Pansy has such a soft purr (soft voice entirely) that sometimes it's really hard to hear that she's purring. When she's standing on my lap and violently kneading my chest, she seems happiest. She rations out her purring though.

My new lil guy, I reach to pet him and he's already purring. I look at him and he purrs.
