I waited nearly 2 hours in line for gas today, at $3.28 a gallon. People were trying to cut in line, and getting mad when no one would let them. They were trying to justify bad behavior by "I gots my baaabies in da car," and other ridiculous excuses. Several fights broke out, and the police had to be called to stations all over town. Apparently there are to be no more gas deliveries in this county until Tuesday. The way people were acting, you would think there was never going to be any more. It was supposedly going to double in price at the magic number of 6 p.m. I have not been back out to see.

Rebecca- Jake told me the same thing is going on in Buncombe county. Sigh. Here, my dad figured that it would be around 8 dollars a gallon (we pay in litres here). This is getting ridulous.

I wouldnt bother driving out just to see how much it is now - it would be a waste of gas!

If people would just hold tight and rein in for a while this would pass. But nooooo, they have to save a few dollars at the pump today to try to beat price increases. By everybody wanting it NOW at the same time, it's just compounding the problem. It's like a run on the banks. No wonder it's called black gold.

It wasn't as bad here but it was bad. The station was almost out of gas and closed half the pumps. People were pulling in every where. I have never seen anything like it!!!

Unfortunately I have, although I was a teenager at the time and not paying a whole lot of attention, during the Oil Embargo of 1973-74.

I would recommend that anyone who doesn't have a locking gas cap, or locking gas access on their car (most newer cars are so equipped) to GET ONE!

You also might think about stocking up your freezer with groceries and your pantry with neccessities. Uncle Fester called today to tell me that all groceries and supplies are going to be going up in the near future as truckers are being hampered by picking up products in the affected states and surrounding areas.

DO NOT install a locking gas cap. I DO remember 1973 and my late husband replaced many gas tanks. The locking cap does not deter dedicated thieves - they merely punch a hole in the tank. Its cheaper to replace a tank of gas, than the whole tank.

One question: Would that be the reason why do the older cars I've seen like the Datsun 210 from 1981 have a locking gas cap with a key, while the newer ones I've seen do not?

It's sad that it's coming down to that though...people stealing gas from other people's cars. Gas prices here in Canada are crazy too, and they continue to go up every day.
