I had a cup for myself and my cat kept trying to stick her head in. It made me wonder, can cats drink soy? I've only given her milk a couple of times in her life and she would only drink a few drops, so she would probably do the same with soy.

I also believe you aren't supposed to give cat's cow milk but not sure about soy. Hopefully someone with more knowledge and experience will be here shortly to help you out.

Whiskas makes a drink that they call "cat milk"...my cat Muggins used to love it. I myself have lactose intolerance issues so every once in a while I will give Reilly a tiny drop of my milk.

if you are not supposed to give cows milk to cats due to lactose intolerance, then give them fat free milk, or raw milk and lactose wont be a problem.

Raw milk is just unpasturized milk as I recall from the days on my grandparent's dairy farm (from the cow to the dinner table, strained through a dish towel, we had the freshest milk on the planet!)..it still has lactose/milk sugar in it, which cats do not tolerate well. Lactose-free milks such as Lactaid will work, or one of the "made for cats" drinks such as Catsip.

Most if not all cats are lactose intolerant.... only every once in a blue moon will Ollie sneak a lick or two out of my cereal bowl and he'll occasionally get lactaid as a treat, but I wouldnt give it to him on a regular basis....

Prego and Polly both love this stuff. They get a very small amount as an occasional treat (couple of times a week). Prego gets diarrhea if he has even a little cow's milk or anything made with cow's milk.

As for the soy, my vet said it was ok, but some cats are allergic to it.

Pat & Alix, I tried reading that medical article several times and I am assuming ft4's are something bad for a cat to have too much of. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think I will check into products made especially for cats, and even then only give it to her once in awhile.

Elevated T4s (a measure of thyroid function) are bad...the conclusion as I read it was this meant an increased risk of developing hyperthyroidism (saying this late at night without relooking at that article!)

Soy isn't toxic, though it's also not super healthy for cats. My cats will sometimes have a taste of my soymilk (they love the leftovers from my cereal bowl
), or a little bite of soy ice creme or tofu or soy cheeze. Unless something is actually toxic, I don't believe a little bit will hurt them. Just don't go off and fill your cat's water bowl with soymilk or anything like that!
