My daughter has 3 indoor cats, 2 siamese and a devon rex. They seem quite happy. I think it all depends on the cat and the circumstances. They are resticted from certain areas when they aren't there and at night. So they have stimulation at different times.

The Devon Rex by the way won't settle at night till my daughters husband has looked through the landing window with her, at the moths etc flying outside it.
Ozzy's very cute!!!

We have 2... Able go outside ona lead once in a while and Limerick stays inside 24/7. Limerick's just scared of the outside and he's pick when it comes to weather. If it's too cold or too hot he'll won't want to go outside at all.

Ours are indoors. Most Koreans do not like cats and they used to eat them so I won't allow mine to go outside. Not only that but they can get hit by cars and normal people can be cruel to them and rabies. No thanks. I will just keep them inside where they are loved and safe.

Indoors, outside on a leash. They have four good windows for squirrel watching. We live on such a busy road, and yes, it's a big bad world out there. Even if I lived on a farm, my boys would only go ouside supervised. I have a rural friend who lost her cat to coyotes
very hard to deal with.

I wouldn't deny my beautiful boy the wonders of mother nature! He loves it! Infact he's sunbathing outside right now!!
Sunbathing!!! But, ummm, don't you live in Wellington?

I totally agree! I think there are too many diseases and dangers out there!

Don`t know how to answer, because one in the past always stayed on the porch and one roamed. Then there was an epidemic of coyotes coming into our gated mobile home park and taking cats and small dogs. Then my husband erected very very high and very thick solid lattice all around the house, so they go out all day but cannot get out. They spend some time in and some time out. And the coyotes have given up about getting in, however they have to be in at dark just in case!

ALL INDOORS! None of my babies are getting killed, sick, poisoned or parasite infested if I can help it! Even out on a leash, you never know if some neighborhood dog will rush in and grab them! But, I know how much Mandarin loves to be out on her tie out, just keep a close eye on her!

I have one that loves to be outside in the front yard but everyone else has to either inside or in the fenced backyard only. I was the original cat owner on the street (we live at the end of the court) but now everyone has atleast one
and they all get along

Abby is an indoor cat that occasionally (maybe once a month) goes outdoors on a harness. She is STRICTLY supervised at all times while outside.

Oh my gosh - what a PASSIONATE topic for me. INDOORS, INDOORS, INDOORS!!!!!
It just BLOWS me away the people that say their cat is too 'smart' for all the dangers outdoors, or that they feel bad because all the cat wants is to be outdoors. In my opinion, if you love your cat- keep them indoors where it is safe!!! The facts are the facts and sadly we see so many acts of cruel intentions by humans (see many posts just on the feral board), wild animals (heard one too many stories in my day, and I'm only 28), diseases (some very common ones are fatal, no cure), cars (doesn't matter if you're on 100 acres.. cats do have 4 legs and know how to walk), etc. I could not imagine my cats having to fend for themselves out in the scary world! I have 8 indoors and the majority are rescues. I thank my lucky stars they found me, and get so sad when I think of what life must have been out on the streets before they were rescued. Average life for an indoor cat is 17 yrs, average life for an outdoor- 4 yrs. Some say, "well, my cat is 14 and has been an outdoor cat all its life".. well, just consider yourself lucky your cat is what makes that average as high as it is in the first place.

In my signature, there's a link to a brochure from Peta that explains it all too well. Some may find it disturbing (as do I) but the truth of what happens to these poor cats is even more disturbing. You have to have Acrobat to open it. If you don't, you can download Acrobat Reader for free on www.adobe.com. This is a great brochure for those advocates who want to educate on why it's so important to keep your cats indoors. Of course there are exceptions, I know. Ferals- but that's not what I'm talking about.

I'm very passionate about this- as I don't think it's fair that I have to worry every time I drive that I'm going to hit a cat and it traumatize me for life. Or seeing a cat, killed, laying in the middle of the road because of a car-- I have a right to make it very clear I think it's wrong and urge people to think twice before letting your cat(s) out. Oh, and then the people that do and come crying wanting sympathy - NOT from me! The only sympathy is for that poor cat who had an owner .. well, forget it - I'll keep it at that. No offense to anyone w/ their cats outdoors, I just think you're making a big mistake. Just like children - you do what is best for them - not necessarily what they 'want' because you feel bad.

Again, all in my honest opinion. Sorry if my strong opinion offends anyone and glad it makes those who believe 100% what I say, smile.

It's very sad when any cat that is either a stray/feral or outdoor cat loses its life, especiallywhen, with a little education (and in some cases common sense), these things could be avoided, reduced or eliminated altogether.
