Rigel, Bijou was born in February and Mika was born in July, but Bijou was full grown when Mika came to us. He was a bit rough with her so we had to supervise their time together for a full month. After one full month, we allowed them to be together all the time. They still sometimes play rough, but Mika is grown now, and although she is almost 1/2 of Bijou's size and weight, she can hold her own. Sometimes when they get rough, we just firmly say "No" and they stop.

Oh you are a worried "fur" father, aren't you ?

O.K. - here are my opinions! I think it's great that you are thinking about getting Milky a sister/brother. If you think that Milky might be jealous, I would get a girl and I would get a kitten. You already know from being a member for so long, that not everyone's kitten gets along like Sophie and Rosie; some are like my five cats who do not cuddle or give baths to each other, but share the house just fine !
I think considering a feral is a very nice idea, but they are a real challenge. Even the kittens, because they are so wild. If I were you, I would go with with a kitten that has already been around people.

You know you must post picture of your new cat/kitten if you get one !

We have two litter boxes. One in our bedroom for Bijou and one in our daughter's bedroom for her Mika. They both use both litters. One day there will hardly be anything in Bijou's and the next day it's full and Mika's is hardly used, so it seems they both use both.

They also have separate food areas - Mika's in Jennifer's room and Bijou in the kitchen and again they both eat out of both areas. They are very good at sharing food and apparently litters as well.

I have 6 ferals that are inside cats right now, ones I rescued. I had 5 Female kittens 2 have gone to new homes, and of course the kittens are easier I think to work with although I have Mommy cat also, they have all been spayed, shots, tested, wormed and such, plus I have two 1 yr old males that I rescued. The kittens have been a JOY

Rigel, i also agre with a younger female preferabbly kitten because milky will sense that she is very young and needs alot of training to do, so it will warm up to the kitten alot easier IMO..

In my experience, it's definitely better to bring in a kitten and of the opposite sex! I would absolutely NOT bring in anything resembling an adult male. I once had a male Siamese who was about 2 years old and I made the mistake of adopting another 9 month old male. They were enemies forever.

I currently have two adult male Siamese, brothers. If you don't know Siamese, they are notorious for being jealous and territorial. I just recently adopted a little girl kitten and it has worked out beautifully. They both think she is their daughter/little sister/ self-motivating toy. It's very sweet.

Just my two cents worth.

Karen
