I introduced my new kitten to my resident 2.5 year old a month ago now. I've gotten to the point where I can leave them alone together and they will just play fight with minimal hissing.

My question is, my resident cat has not been the same since I brought home the new addition. I knew his personality would change, but I see no signs of him returning back to "normal". He's become extremely moody, doesn't want to me picked up anymore (he used to love it, but no he just growls). I haven't heard him purr in a month. He literally just glares at me everytime I am around instead of being the lovable, person loving cat he used to be.

Is there a possibility he won't return to normal?

I should also add that I have been treating him for crystals and he is on an anti-depressant right now as well. But I've medicated him in the past and he's not become a moody monster.

Being poorly probably doesn't help

Rosie did change with me when i brought Sophie home, because she stopped coming up onto my lap like she used to and wouldn't play as much when i threw her balls up the stairs.

She was too fascinated with Sophie as well to tell you the truth!. Very slowly Rosie started getting back to her old self with me, but it took a good year, but i kept on showing her that she was loved and it has paid off because i have my old Rosie back again

Ditto what RosieMac said! Believe me, it takes all the energy I have to keep Napoleon around and to try to get Cassie on board with the whole thing...It's only been two months, and one month since we started leaving them alone together the majority of the time...I have been treating their behavioral problems with essences and using Play Therapy which has really brought Cassie around...she is naturally a very aloof cat, but a good girl. She wasn't interested in any of the toys she normally was, but when I brought Da Bird home, she COULD NOT WAIT to attack it. Even Napoleon's and Cassie's relationship was getting better, they could sit next to each other without the other one trying to pick a fight LOL.

It sounds like when resident cat is 100% healthy again, try to engage the kitties in play therapy. THIS is the best stuff in the WORLD and I am so thankful I found this board to educate me on it. Both of the cats are much happier with my incorporating play time each day. Good luck

I've just ordered one of these da birds online today.

Hopefully I can get my resident going again.

I am telling you, this toy is the best thing on EARTH!!!!! I had both kitties jumping around this morning to kill the bird!!! Be sure to get at least two (one for each) and two refills. Enjoy

He will, just don't force it and take it one day at a time. When Rosie came back onto my lap after all those months and started playing "peekaboo" like we used to do i could have cried, but it was then i knew that she was back to her normal self again

I got one to see how it is. I know the kitten will love at as she thinks everything is a toy.

I just want my big boy back

I'd taking everything a day at a time, hoping he'll start coming around one day.

Sweetie, I know the feeling...Cassie would take up 1/3 of the bed at night, snuggle with my boyfriend in the morning, in the middle of the night, then if I slept in, she would wake up with me. When I would get home, she would roll around on the carpet until I picked her up, then she would purr for 5 minutes straight.

I can't even really hold her because she's still upset with us for getting Napoleon.
But little things tell me she's getting better...the other night, Napoleon was sleeping and she let me pick her up and she purred for a few minutes...then last night, we gave her a new catnip toy and she started rolling around like Madonna on it
She even sleeps with me and Napoleon on my days off

So little by little, your little guy (or "big guy") will come around doing little things to get your attention to show the old him is there, and he will be fine.

My animal therapist (yes, I have one because *I'm* nuts LOL) suggested that it's not uncommon for cats to take 6 months to a year to adjust. OK I'm on month two and they are playing together now. Not too bad I guess

Keep us posted!
