Gas is over $3 for unleaded here in Savannah now, with no more tanks making deliveries for who knows how long. I'm worried because I was supposed to go visit my best friend in Macon (almost 200 miles away) this weekend, but if we have to start rationing gas, I don't know how feasible that is

the other day I needed some gas but just enough to get from point a to point b because it was raining and i was grouchy. I had a $5 bill and was like ohwell, just throw in $5 to make it whereever. So I started to pump and got to $5 and the dang thing didn't even put in 2 gallons yet!!! I was sooo p'od. SO MAD. When I started driving $5 would put almost 6 gallons in. I was shocked and it's the first time I really noticed how messed up the gas situation is. No more weekend trips for me!

On Monday I paid $2.54 and today (Wednesday) it has gone up .25 cents to 2.79...they said by Friday its supposed to be well over $3.00, UGH!
Will it EVER go back down? Do you think it will really go up a lot more considering its going to be the holiday weekend and everyone will be traveling? Well, those who can afford to travel now thanks to rediculious gas prices! Im just glad that my Impala gets 30MPG!
That doesnt even matter...it still cost me $45 to fill up on Monday at 2.54 a gallon! *Sigh*..I remember when I first started driving it was no more than $1 per gallon!

Yes but what Rockcat is talking about is the possiblity of there be a shortage of gas. I think her post was more in relation to that than how it would affect gas prices, though obviously they would go up drastically if gas did have to be rationed.

One of the guys at work mentioned something about gas being sold in states from certain refiners that couldn't originally sell gas in that states???
In Wisconsin while we don't have price gouging laws; gas stations can only raise prices once in a 24 hr period. Plus the price on the marquee is what you pay. They can't charge another price once you go inside. They are watching this really closely as there had been many complaints.

I heard that too, that the Feds have temporarily lifted all of the state regulations (i.e. California has to have a lower emissions fuel than the rest of the country) of different formulas so that the gas can be taken where it's needed.

Between 7:30 this morning and 12:30 this afternoon, gas prices went from $2.69 (up 10 cents on Tuesday) to $2.89.

Goodness Gracious. Please let gas prices stay reasonable until tonight when I can stop and get some. Last time I check around here it was $2.50 something. Last time I put it off, I wound up paying .20 more a gallon in the evening verses the morning.

How much more can people's pocket books take? I don't know about you but most of the people I know make ends meet but just barely. With the cost of gas spiraling out of control...I see a bad turn ahead of us.

First it was housing...
Now Gas...
what's next? Food.
And I won't even touch on health care.

Gas here in Idaho just went up this afternoon. My biggest problem is, when the gas that the stations are selling right now cost much less, why are they passing the increase on to the consumers? When I left to take my kids to school this morning it was $2.54 at the cheapest place. When I came home an hour ago it was $2.69 at the same place. My husband works for a office furniture comany here and they were told by the station that they use that gas here would be close to $4.00 a gallon by the weekend. If that happens, then everything will go up. Yesterday, I put $52.00 in my tank to fill it up. This morning, someone had siphened (sp) it and we were empty. When I called the cops, they said that they had 58 reports of the same thing within the last 24 hours. Hate to say it but with this stuff going on, the economy is gonna crash! Sorry if I am rambleing, but this is going to kill my family as far as money is concerned.

I filled up after work yesterday for $2.59 a gallon. On my way to work this morning I passed the same gas station and it was $2.52 a gallon. On my way HOME just now it was $3.09. There is NO NEED IN THIS. Exxon-Mobile and the other gas companies are posting RECORD PROFITS, and we are being BLED DRY by them.
It's greed, pure and simple.
And the bad thing is, how do you think our goods get to market? By TRUCK!! And those trucks run on GAS! So it costs more to ship the good. Which means that those goods will either cost more or the company will take a hit in profits..and most companies are not about to take a hit on profits. So they pass the additional costs on to US, the consumers. So our food, toiletries, clothes, medicines, everything we have to buy, costs more.
And our paychecks aren't getting any bigger.

I remember the first time I bought gas in the summer of '99...$1 a gallon!! Man, do I miss the Clinton years.

I just saw on CNN where somewhere in those gulf states there charging $3.99 a gallon, wouldn't that be taking advantage? I know it's tough but what's up with being fair even in a mess

I can remember my first hubby selling it for 29cents a gallon when he owned a gas station in the late 60s early 70s, and he made a living doing it, but I won't even go there
