So I was supposed to hear about the job at the petstore yesterday. The Assitant manager who interviewed me said they would call me yesterday because they were short handed, and the manager was going to be on vacation soon. Well when it got close to 3 pm when i start work and i know my phone will be tied up, and the Answering machine will not pick up. I called and politely asked to check on if there was any word. the girl was very rude, stated the Assistant manager wasnt there, bla bla. So I said that was ok and left my cell phone number so that he would at least be able to leave a message.

Well today...as of 2:30..no call. Alright fair enough I didnt think it was rude to call and check on the status, since they did say they would call me Yesterday. I am pretty big on people actually calling back when they say they will. I have always called my clients back when i say i will. even if i am perhaps busy, and can not talk i call to see if another time will work good for them. I know its not the same thing employee, client..but i would like to think you shoudl treat your employees with respect too.

Well the girl on the phone was once again RUDE, she was all snarky "THEY WILL CALL YOU BACK..WE ARE SHORT STAFFED AND THE MANAGER IS ON VACATION" i had to keep myself from laughing about the short staffed comment. DUH thats why I was intereviewed dont you think?

I kept myself as calm as i could and stated back to this lovely rude girl. "Yes I know the manager is on vacation that is why I was told by the Assitsant manager that I would hear back on Monday, because they needed help and the manager was on vacation"

She was silent. and was like "Oh..and they havent called you back?" boy isnt she a genius?! I polietly said no they have not and said goodbye.

Really has me re-thinking wanting to work for them. Just like I decided not to bother with Nutro..it took them well over a month for them to contact me about even interviewing. And I sumbited my thing TWICE. Bil Jac contacted me within a week, intewvied me and I start on thursday.

trust your instincts with this one and dont take the job unless you get a better impression of the company.

anywhere that is short staffed is hell to work at (ironic as thats the reason they are hiring in the first place!).

I just got an e-mail from a place I applied to. They promised to get in touch with me one-way-or-the-other by about 3 weeks ago.

Honestly I would still have taken the job, despite the flakeyness, but I do dislike it when people make promises and don't keep them.

I agree go with your gut feeling on this one. But just think, if you do get the job you might have to teach that girl some manners!

Sorry that you have been left hanging on

I can understand how you feel though... I have had my CV submitted to about 15 jobs in London over the past 3 weeks - I have had one interview, and 2 more interviews coming up but have not heard a sausage from the other 12
They could at least say yes for interview / no for interview rather than leave me haning on without a status.

I think that there should be some law everywhere with regards to this - that companies / agencies have to reply within a certain amount of time frame to candidates...

Movin' on up!
I'm with you. One of my prospects was supposed to call me back - LAST Friday! To date, not a word. At this point, if they WERE to call, with an offer - I'd decline. I will not work for people, who cannot show even the simplest common courtesy. (Besides, I interviewed for a better, higher-paying job, this morning).
