I just need a quick "sharing" session.
I'm currently speaking to an internet friend of mine who is from India. He was telling me how cheap it is to raise cats in India, and then started telling me how his friend had 3 cats who drank a glass of milk every day. THATS IT!!! That's all he fed his cats. For treats they were given egg whites and very occasionally fish. I'm not really sure how these animals survived. one can only hope they did their own hunting.
*sigh* we do what we know best....and I'm sure it's true in this case.
Thanks...I feel better now.

Perhaps if he is a "friend", you could gently try to educate him on how cats should be fed, i.e., no cow's milk and the need for meat.

Maybe they were hunting and eating the abundance of rats on the side. The rats could probably eat them though.

Sometimes it's hard to hear such stories, but you have to keep in mind that different cultures view companion animals differently. In the Indian culture this person might be spoiling their cat rotten while we think it's neglect. Although I agree with Linda that it might be a good chance to gently educate your friend about feline nutrition, you have to be sensitive to the cultural differences in the situation.

the cat might be a working cat and the milk might be given as a 'treat'.

if the cats eating rats, mice, birds etc it should be getting adequete nutrition.

From what my Indian friends have told me, cats are held in almost as high regard as snakes for their vermin control.
And any food fed them is fed as a treat as most all Indian cats are working cats.

Well, it sounds as though my friend doesn't know the whole story then. I had a sneaking feeling they were hunting-cats, but he just said "yeah, well, they bring back the odd cockroach". I figured they were eating everything they didn't bring back. Yesterday was a bad day on the emotions for me, so I probably just judged too quickly and didn't let my brain do what it does best. Oh well, here's hoping my body works better today

You concern for the cats resulted in your initial reaction. That's not a bad thing, just shows you care!

...well said Christy!..

Maybe we can 2 ways to help in this matter..

1.- We can "suggest" to our friends from other cultures, about the need to all kitty to have a complete meal! ...but like a "humble suggestion with all respect"...

2.- Pray to Lord that our friends listen to us about this matter...
and of course for all those poor kittys...

and Definately, YES, thank you for share this with us...
