There are still plenty of National Guard and Reserve units stateside. And where are they? They can't get in to New Orleans. The rescuers can't hardley get in. New Orleans is surrounded by water, and most of the roads are washed out or under water.
I heard on the news at lunch that grocery stores were the main focus of the looting, but that there were some people taking advantage of the situation and grabbing anything not nailed down. I also heard that a gun store was one of the places looted and that it was completely cleaned out.
They are trying to completely evacuate New Orleans because, in the mayor's words, "we cannot sustain life of any kind within the city for more than a couple days".
The water is rising, and they have no idea how high it will go. This really looks like Indonesia in December. But where are the pledges of international aid for our people?
