My 17 year old nephew and his friend were walking last night about 10:00 and this group of 6 other guys walk by and out of no where one of them punches my nephews friend in the nose as they walk by! Then they walk away. His friend went home to take care of his nose. A little while later my nephew is sitting at the bus stop waiting for his friends to show up and this same group shows up and gang up on my nephew while he's alone and it was unprovoked. They knocked him to the ground and kicked him in the head a few times. He has 3 "goose eggs" one pretty big too.
He refused to go to the ER and get check which had me and still has me worried.
Well the cops arrested 3 of them and my nephew filed charges.
I'm not all too clear on all of the details right now, my nephew was needless to say quite stressed when he did finally get home at about 3 AM.
I'll let you know if I find out anything else.
Poor kid!!!

Poor kid! I hope the others get prosecuted and punished accordingly.
How do you think this will affect him in the future?
How is he handling it?

Diane thats terrible!, whats the world coming to when they go around punching people like that?!

Theres been a craze going on over here in the UK with kids where they run up to someone and slap them hard for no reason what so ever, but they've really caused some damage.

I'm pleased the police have hold of them and hope they get the book thrown at them

What a sad world we live in today
At least they caught some of them and because of that, I am certain that they will catch up with the rest. I hope that your nephew recovers soon.

I've heard of this Uk phenom, Susie. I heard that their friends videotape it and then they put it online.

Some people have too much evil time on their hands.

He did file charges against the 3 who were arrested so hopefully they will get the appropriate punishment.

Last night he was quite upset because he just couldn't understand why a group of 6 would attack a person who was alone and didn't give any cause for such an attack!
He's still sleeping right now, so I'll let you know how he is doing later today.

Your poor nephew
Please keep us updated on his condition; I hope this hasn't traumatized him too much.

My little brother was jumped when leaving a teen night at a local club when he was 17. He was with some "friends" from work but his "friends" ran off when these 3 kids attacked Jeff
. Fortunately, he was not terribly hurt, but it was so scary nonetheless.

I hope your nephew is able to get past this very soon {{{{{}}}}}.

Thats right they record it with the videos on their mobile phones.

It makes you wonder just what they'll be like when they become adults

To be honest, its really a pack mentality thing in my opinion. Not that it doesn't happen with girls, but men and boys do these things for different reasons it seems. Its a "proving of might" in my opinion.
Circle the weaker (if you are a pack of 6, everyone else is the weaker) and show how "brave" you are...Its a stupid and disgusting thing to do for kicks.

You don't know how many times I have saved my EVEN grown men! friends from being hit or beaten on the street because they may have looked at a group of guys too long or what have you..I have lived in a rough area for more than 10 years and not once have I encountered this problem.
Yet, with my male friends, it can be an almost weekly occurence!

Sad. I hope your nephew pulls through. This can be a blow to the psyche as well as the physical body. I am glad he had the courage to prosecute!
Many don't.

This is so awful, Diane! What on earth would possess these guys to do such a thing! It's just senseless, how cruel! It's so sad that we've come to the point where we can't even feel safe walking down the street.

Sure hope your Nephew is feeling better later today. It sounds as if he was hurt quite badly, please do encourage him to get to the Dr to be examined.

How awful! I really do dispair of the world toady sometimes, and it's things like this that make me even more set against having children - what kind of world would they grow up in?

I do hope you can convince your nephew to get checked up by a Dr, just to be on the safe side and set all your minds at rest.

Lots of {{{good}}} vibes coming his way

Thats awful
It's not nice when you can't walk down your own street without thugs attacking.... there's a lot of that in my area in London and it really makes me

I hope that your nephew gets well soon, and the police do justice by jailing these evil thugs!

Thanks everyone!

It is hard to understand how people can get enjoyment out of hurting others. While this is definately not the best neighborhood we haven't had many problems over the years. Though back in the 70's when we were in middle school my brother got jumped the same way. Now he has Bipolar disorder but I don't know if the attack caused the disorder or that he already had it and just made it worse.

I just hope my nephew comes through this mentally and physically intact.

I hope that you can persuade your nephew to seek medical attention asap! Not only will this help the prosecutors make a case, it may help to prevent any lingering, future problems. Normally, with head trauma, the doctor will want you to keep your nephew awake; it would be a good idea if you wake him up - if he falls into a deep sleep that he can't be aroused from, call the paramedics or get him to ER IMMEDIATELY!!! Please, please don't let him talk you out of this. When I had my car accident, I refused to go to the hospital until extreme neck/back pain set in, and once I was there, I tried to leave - it turned out that I had a concussion, and one of the signs is refusal to be treated. Even with treatment, I had loss of memory, both short-term & long-term (finally, I had an excuse
) and I had no big obvious lumps on my head. I can think of many excuses for a 17yo to not want to go to the doctor, esp. cuz it might seem like "they win", but so many more reasons that HE NEEDS to be checked out! {{{Prayers & vibes}}} that he consents to seek medical care & that he heals from this physical & emotional trauma.
You are an angel for caring so much for him! Please keep us posted on how he's doing!! Hugs, Susan

I forgot to add - the prosecutors will ask for restitution so that the "wimpy hoodlums" can pay your nephew's medical bills. At least in CA, the hospital will treat him without any money upfront, and most of the states have victim/witness programs to help out with other costs, including counseling to help him recover emotionally. I can only try to imagine how awful it felt for him, being set upon like that, by his own species!! It's bad enough to be attacked by a dog... I really feel badly for him..

Evil and cowardice together as one... that's what that is. I hope your nephew recovers from this Diane.
