Hi!
My 2.5-3months old singa is having slight diarrhea problems since approx 1 week. Does it have something to do with what I feed? It seems that it ocurred the first time after starting to feed dry food in the mornings (I read you shuld give dry in the morning and wet in the eve, so that she isn't all too excited to wake me up early in the morning
)
Now I don't know how to handle it... should i try to give her mainly wet food or more dry food?

She'll be going to the vet beginning of next week. Her last (and first) appointment was beginning of August at which the vet gave her apparently all that is necessary... So I don't think it's worms.

Does anybody have experience if it could be related to the type of food I feed her?

Hi
Without knowing more details, and from this distance its hard to isolate the problem but it is likely one of three things:

1) Mild diarrhea possibly with a little blood can be the result of worms. Because most kittens are born with worms, ALL kittens should be de-wormed.

2) Diet change or too rich a diet. A change on wet food can cause diarrhea. Avoid rich kitten foods, try a mild wet food like iams chicken for adults, as much as the kitten can eat, 3 times a day. Kittens need a LOT of wet food, do not restrict wet food simply because the kitten has diarrhea. It isn't the "wetness" that is causing the diarrhea. You could also try a few days of human baby food, chicken flavor, STAGE ONE ONLY, no onion may be allowed into the food

3) The most serious possibility is diarrhea as the result of a parasite. This can be dangerous if untreated. Bring a stool sample to your vet.

Well, since it's mild diarrhea, and it started after you began feeding dry, it's probably just a change in the diet. Cat's tummies are quite sensative about that sometimes. I.E. if you had your kitties on a strictly dry diet, and then gave them wet food, it could do the same. I wouldn't worry too much unless it worsens. But that's me... it's always best to go ahead and get a fecal done.

Hi, if I understand you, this dry food is a new food to the kitten? If so, then I think it's certainly possible it is a reaction to the food. I agree however, that it wouldn't hurt to take in a stool sample with this next visit, to be sure worms are not an issue, or a parasite such as coccidia.

For now, back off on the dry - give a smaller amount in the am with the wet food that the kitten was doing well on (if I understood you, the kitten had been on wet only?)

keep us posted!

Yes. At the beginning I simply fed wet food. And then someone gave me the advice t feed dry in the morning so that she wouldn't wake me all the time so early ;o)

But true, maybe it is beacause I didn't 'introduce it slowly... I thought the directions on the pack to first start mixing both and then slowly going over to only dry food is just a matter of the cat eating it or not and not due to a sensative tummy.

I'll see how it goes! Will let you know!
Thanks!
