Great to hear Charlie is on the mend. Good luck with finding homes for them all

Thought you guys might like to see a picture of this sweet, brave little guy.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/eilcon/DSCN5805.jpg

The good news is that the vet expects Charlie to make a full recovery. She inserted pins in both of his back legs to keep the bones in place as they heal. He's already able to stand on them for short periods of time. He's on kennel rest for the next four weeks, but should then be able to free roam in the foster area. When I went to see him last night he was all purrs and very talkative.

The vet did confirm Charlie's injuries were the result of abuse. She said it looks like someone kicked him, very hard.

So, we're going to post flyers in the neighborhood to see if any of the residents saw anything, file a report with the local SPCA and alert the media to Charlie's story. We probably won't find the person who did this, but at least we can draw some attention to the problem of animal cruelty.

When the little guy's ready, we'll have him neutered and find him a home. Please keep the good vibes coming for Charlie during his recovery!

More than week after his surgery, little Charlie is doing well. He's still pretty unsteady on his back legs, but is getting stronger everyday and is sweeter than ever. He is a purring machine!

Meanwhile, we passed out flyers in the neighborhood trying to get more information about what happened. We learned from some of the kids that there's a 12-year-old boy who's been torturing and killing small animals, including a couple of kittens, so there's a chance he's the one responsible for hurting Charlie. The kids are willing to testify to what they've seen, so we're filing a report with the local SPCA. The whole situation has many of the neighbors furious and wanting to take action.

Please keep those powerful TCS vibes coming!

That just makes my stomach turn. Anyone hurting helpless animals does, but a child? Thank you for all your work on this one. I'm so glad that Charlie received the care he needed and is doing well. What a lucky little guy!

Charlie is just gorgeous!

Nail that kid! I dont care if he is only 12.
Serial killers start out that way ya know - killing small animals.

all in all another reason to keep our beloveds indoors.

So happy Charlie is doing well! He'll bounce right back since he's young!

The punishments for animal abuse should be stiffened regardless of the age of the perpetrator.

More good vibes headed baby Charlie's way!

Poor little guy. Hope he makes a full recovery. I hope that they find the person who did this and give them a taste of their own medicine. I think maybe if people are given what they have dished out it might make others think twice about hurting little ones like Charlie.

Hugs being sent your way precious little one.

Charlie says thanks for all good vibes!

And, there's more good news. He's been adopted! A young teacher who saw the flyer we posted in the neighborhood was so moved by Charlie's situation he called to adopt a kitten from us. He wasn't specifically interested in Charlie but it was love at first sight for both of them. He was so gentle with Charlie and the little guy just curled up on his lap and purred like crazy. Charlie still needs some recovery time, but will go to his new home at the end of the week.

Yup, thats my theory too and there actually is real science to back that up. People I speak to who tell me its normal for young kids to torture small animals, that they are just being kids, not knowing any better, worry me.

Great news for Charlie

Here's hoping he has a loving, long happy life after the difficult start he had.

Charlie just went to his new home! I left work early to be there. It was so touching to see how much his new "dad" loves Charlie and treats him with so much gentleness. And, of course, Charlie was loving it.

Because of the ongoing animal cruelty investigation and fact that Charlie still needs to be neutered, we'll be staying in touch to follow his progress. I just love a happy ending!

Looks like Charlie is going to need some good vibes. He reinjured one of his legs and may need more surgery to repair it. Please keep this sweet little guy in your thoughts and prayers.

OMGosh, I just saw this thread for the first time and was so happy while reading it to learn that Charlie had found such a loving forever home. How sad to learn he has hurt himself again, do you know what happened to cause the injury? Please tell me the teacher is keeping him indoors?

I'm so sorry, poor little Charlie will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers. Please do keep us up to date on what is happening with him. Such a sad beginning on such an early life. My prayers that he heals quickly and can learn to be happy & pain free the remainder of his life.

Thanks so much for the prayers for Charlie. He apparently got a little spooked by a loud noise in his new home and tried to run away faster than he's actually capable of. It's a set back, but the vet said he should be fine. His new dad is just devasted. And yes, Charlie will be an indoor only cat.

After a temporary setback when Charlie reinjured one of his legs, he has been cleared by his vet to return to normal, active kitten duty.

The pins the vet inserted have done the trick to cause his bones to heal properly and, while he make walk a little funny for a while, he should be just fine! His dad reports that Charlie is a crazy, affectionate little guy, who likes to jump up in bed at play at 3:30 a.m, but said he doesn't mind a bit. Another happy ending!

Regarding the cruelty investigation - with no witnesses the SPCA doesn't think this will go anywhere, but will let everyone know if this changes.

Thanks to everyone for the good vibes during Charlie's recovery. You guys are awesome!

I'm glad Charlie is such a brave little kitty and is recovering from these injuries. It sounds like he has a wonderful purr-sonality.

Regarding the SPCA investigation, four neighborhood children witnessed the suspect killing the other two kittens. In the email you forwarded from Millie, she says she has signed statements from the kids and that they told other people about the incident as well. At least three SPCA "investigators" were given that information so it upsets me that they keep claiming there are no witnesses.
