hi all

I'm about to get my first cat and I'm very excited. Its an abyssinian and I've been waiting a few months already for the litter. I initailly wanted a female but since then have realized that male cats are more frindlier.

Every female kitty I've ever met has been snotty while every male has been very friendly. Is this generally true? I want a cat that willl be friendly and want to be close and around me all the time, that is why I chose and Aby.

Can anyone please give me feedback and help me with my choice.

Thanks

Gambit

It really depends on the individual cat. My experience has been that the females tend to bond more with one person, while the males are generally social with everyone if they're social at all.

I think it depends on the cat as well. I have two girls, and Rosie is very shy and timid until she gets to know someone, but Sophie will go and headbutt legs with anyone.

I agree that it depends on the individual personality of each kitty. I have a girl kitty and she is as sweet, playful and loveable as can be. I've met boy kitties who could easily be described as "snotty" or aloof. It's probably best to spend a little time with the kitties and adopt the one that takes a shine to you. I went to a shelter looking for a boy kitty but when I got there this cute little baby girl convinced me that she was the one.

I have noticed that males can be more lovable. My mom had 3 females, and I had 1. I also have 1 male and my sister has 2 males, and all three males are extremley lovable, the females would rather be left alone to do what they want and don't care much for petting and playing. My male cat is soooo friendly, sometimes too friendly wants love and attention all the time, he is like a big baby. However, if a male is not neutered, he will want to go out all the time, and you may not see him for days or weeks at a time. So if you do get a male it is best to get him fixed. It will also reduce or eliminate the spraying that they do to mark their territory.

Either makes good pets after spaying/neutering. But I've found that males seem to be more laid back and socialable then females; of course there are exceptions.

If I was picking a cat, I'd go for the males first.

My next one will be male ... I love my girls but boys are more mommy oriented from what I have found..

My story is similar... I planned to get male kitties but both times I was won over by females (my Tigger and Callie).

My friend's male cat does not like other people coming to visit and gets really snotty and sometimes aggressive. Last week he snarled and tried to bite me (apparently he gets like this with anyone new, especially if they go anywhere near his human momma) It's the opposite at my house with my girls, especially Callie... she will suck up and give love to anyone who rubs her ears or plays with her using her favorite toys.
