i woke up yesterday to find a stray cat on my patio. I tried to feed her but all she would take was milk, and i know milk is no good for cats.....i tried to feed her some soft cat food but she won't eat. she came back today and still won't eat. I am worried i can't find anything to feed her and i know she is hungry....what can i tempt her with, or should i attempt to force feed her. she is very tame, she comes right up to you and will sit in your lap and per like crazy, and she always wants in the house, but i can't bring her in until i get her checked out or talk to my vet......so what can i do in the mean time!!

You would need to contain her in a bathroom or another room that you don't use that often. Pour some milk over some dry cat food and let it sit for a few minutes until the food absorbs the milk- but don't let it spoil. Feed her that and see how she does.

When you do take her to the vet have her scanned for a microchip and in the meantime try and find out if she belongs to someone, or if she was just dumped in your neighborhood.

Try some baby food meat - plain beef or turkey or chicken (just check the label to be sure there is no onion listed in the ingredients). You can also try boiling up some plain chicken for her, and see if she'll eat the meat/and drink the broth. You can get cat milk (i.e. catsip) which is sold at stores such as petco and petsmart for her, try mixing that with a canned cat food. Try fish based, and a seperate chicken, try a w/gravy canned and a simple ground. You'll need to figure out what flavors and textures she likes

I second what hissy is suggesting...bring this cat indoors and keep her in a room with food, water and litter. As long as your cats are UTD on shots..it should be ok as long as they are seperated.

OK, i found this little cat, she isn't but a year old at most and very underweight and i tried to feed her but she won't eat. she won't eat solids, soft foods, or milk mixtures either. i tried giving her catsip and she won't eat it, all she'll take is milk.. and i am worried that will only cause her to lose more weight.. what do i do!! I have never had a cat that won't eat, and i am worried she has feline lukemia, and thats why she won't eat anything. I am waiting on my paycheck to come in so i can take her to a vet.. but in the mean time i am going out of my mind!!

Dear Carroll:

First of all: May God bless you for saving this little girl.
Is there a way that you could take her to the vet now and have him to wait for the payment until you'll be getting your paycheck? Cats that won't eat might develop further problems (liver damage) within a couple of days.
Maybe the vet could give her something to boost her strength (there are high-calorie pastes), this way maybe boosting her appetite, too.
What kind of milk are you giving to her? Cats can't take normal milk as their digestive system can't break it up properly. Petshops carry milk especially made for cats which you could give to her.
I don't want to be patronizing, if you already know this, o.K., but I just wanted to mention it because normal milk could aggravate any digestive problem.

Sending good vibes your way and keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck to the both of you

Joe

Carroll I merged your threads. I second Joe's suggestion to get this cat to a vet quickly. You can take a look at this article to find out why we express concern over a cat not eating, or not eating much

I would guess if she dont eat anything but milk so she is probably used to milk. Ie she is one of those cats who manage milk. Do you have low-lactose milk in your shop (is in swedish shops). If several to choose - take the fattest.

It is funny she wont eat anything. A homeless cat is usual always hungry - and can´t be fussy with food. Is she ill and cant eat because of it?

Like the others said. Good you are cautious, but if you have her isolated in ONE room everything will be okay - for you and for her.

And spread the word around you found her - write it up everywhere...
there is a good chance she HAS a owner seeking after her...

Good luck!
