Here's the live feed from New Orleans news. Provided they're still there tomorrow, I'll probably be glued to it all day.

You know there is a chance it won't be as bad as they think right? That has happened before right, it loses some momentum once it hits land?..

I mean I know they have to plan for the worst of course.

Right now the thinking is that it will still be at least a strong cat 4, there's nothing in the way to weaken it and even the people on that station in NO are afraid it could even gain more strength. Either way, it'll be catastrophic for the city.

Unfortunately, I think no matter how you cut it, they're in for it.

We're so far East from them that it would really have to drastically move East to really affect us.

On the news they were talking about how the ocean water is pretty toxic there so if it gets on shore it's a bigger problem than just water. *Sigh*

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Katrina's path. I will say a special prayer for all the poor animals that will be left behind and all the homeless ones outside. I hope it's not as bad as their predicting.

One other point, Marge...

When something like this happens, even if the pipes remain in place to deliver drinking water, they'll be told not to drink or bathe in it without boiling it... and they won't have power to do that. The whole city will most likely stink like sewage because those processing centers will be compromised... it'll just be a nasty place to be.

Even if it's just a strong Cat 3, a lot of the infrastructure could be destroyed. And with NO, would most certainly still cause massive flooding. It just isn't a good scenario either way... but of course Cat 5 would just be horrifically catastrophic... might change the skyline of the city.

I would just like to say that I, myself, will be ready and able to send anything federal express (or any way it can GET there) to take care of TCS members, should they need help. I will send food, blankets, cat food (I have 2 un-used crates) drinking water, first aid, I WILL SEND ANYTHING. I know that the Seattle area has already called for medical staff and relief staff to stand by. The one member I am also thinking of is Catherine, she just gave birth out there in Baton Rouge, although that's not right on the coast, it still means devastating floods.

Kind of makes watching the VMA's incredibly frivilous, doesn't it.

My husbands brother and his family came to stay with his Mom in Alabama today. They live right across the street from the beach in the Gulfport/Biloxi Mississippi area. I'm worried they may not have a place to go home to after this, it looks so bad. They left this morning and said the traffic was so awful on I-10 there, bumper to bumper and very slow. I'm so glad they left early this morning to get out of there.

I second that. I worry about them not being able to let us know if they need anything - if the power goes out, etc. But, PLEASE, if you are out there and have a need, LET US KNOW if you possibly can!

I am sending positive vibes and energy to anyone in Katrina's way and those being evacuated from the New Orleans area....
And especially strong good vibes for the poor animals who are left behind.
I hope New Orleans is still standing when it's all over with....

Do we have an 'offical' list for TCS'ers who might be affected by Katrina? If not can someone start another thread to help us keep spacific track of thoes people, etc.? It's a little hard to read quick through all these posts and remember who we're praying for speciffically and then it will be hard to see if they've updated and what not.

Good ideas everyone! Susie as a list of some people - but she is on vacation! I am going to talk to my VP at work to see if they are planning on donating shampoo/conditioners etc- and if not - no time like the present to start!

Isn't it due at New Orleans at like dawn? They say all the prep time for this has passed, now it's just time to wait.

Well, this may not be so true. Yes, it is in the gulf over some very warm water. But, when I look at this picture, I see that the western side of the storm is not quite as dense and it almost appears that some dry air is trying to find it's way into the storm. This may prevent further strengthening and could weaken it some, but it will not stop it. May God be with the people and animals who will be in the path of this storm. It's going to be a rough one.
How can you tell all this? Are you a weather person? I ask as where I live it was predicted to be 93 degrees today (with the exception of 2 places on the internet that changed their mind overnight) and it got to be 103.5!

How does anyone know what a hurricane is going to be or how hot it will be?

ON the top right corner of everybody's message post it lists where they are from and their join date!

I noticed that, but I think I would have to go through everybody one-by-one to figure it out? Oh - and that's only where they say they're from, like USA, if they want, for example!

My prayers with all of them in its path. we have 20 head of horse and 10 head of cattle coming to stay with us from that area. We are a long ways away but we did what we could to help find a home for these animals for now. free of charge.

One of my best friends in the world Tucker..who lives in Oklahoma, who rescuses horses with his own money, and tends to 150 souls of his own, is also taking in animals. last count he had more than 300 animals from the affected area coming to his place, hes also putting up families anywhere he can.
