I just heard they changed it to closer to 4-5am. Why do these monsters always come in the night?
When I started watching this thing early today, it gave me the chills. I have a bad feeling about this one.
Words don't seem enough to wish those people well-they are in for a long, bad night. And that's just the beginning.

I was just watching the weather channel and realized they're forecasting 60mph gusts here... mind you, that's over 300 miles away from New Orleans. This thing is HUGE and could knock out power to millions of people living in the Southern states!!!

What a monster. Fox News is stating that if it makes landfall at this strength or just under, you can expect all wood structures to be gone.

I had no idea until I read it about it just now, this is going in the history books they say. Prays to all those there. I hear the evacuations are going smooth though.

I think we all need to start thinking about how to help out once this monster of a storm passes. We know it's inevitable. I know of some folks on a bird list I belong to that have offered to board birds for free. I myself, living in Minnesota, will be sending some funds to Red Cross. Just something for you all to think about. I'm really scared for you folks down south. May God be with you!

Oh my... I can't imagine going through that. I thought Hurricane Juan was bad enough. Not even close. Compared to what Katrina will be Juan was just a rain shower. Mega vibes heading to all those in the affected areas.

This storm is simply beyond scary.

To everyone in the path, especially Cindy, Cindy and Sooz...please stay safe. Don't take any chances!

Honestly, I'm really scared for those who are taking shelter in the Superdome. Please let that structure hold! They said it has never even come close to weathering this kind of storm, and while it's more structurally sound than most other buildings in New Orleans, well, they're not 100% sure. Right now they are expecting between 20,000-30,000 people to take shelter there.

The big story immediately and several months following will be human suffering... I saw somewhere a prediction that a million people could end up homeless after this storm. Initial contributions will need to go to that.

From reading all the stories from Ivan, there will be thousands of people whose homes will be damaged or destroyed, and either do not have insurance or have insurance that won't pay enough or fast enough. Their whole lives will be destroyed and won't get back on track for a long, long time. Perhaps we can find a way to sponsor a family like this as a group, where we could really make a collective difference.

After several months the story that people won't see in the news anymore is the effort to rebuild and recover... and stories of people like the above, some still struggling a year after Ivan. They're going to need as much help as possible for the next couple of years.

I was worried about the dome too, I think I would get the hell out of town even if I couldn't drive. Well let's think positive thoughts cause it can't help to worry.

Okay, well, they've lowered our wind gusts to 45mph only in the strongest storms off the feeder bands. We'll only get a few strong thunderstorms at this point, they haven't even closed our offices in Pensacola yet, and it'll be business as usual for us.

Here's the live feed from New Orleans news. Provided they're still there tomorrow, I'll probably be glued to it all day.
